Eastern Connecticut K-Love acquires Classic Hits Big 100.9 WKNL New London

The most obvious fallout of this sale (besides the conversion to "K-Love") will be the lack of a classic hits station in southeastern Connecticut. I wonder if WICH (1310 kHz) will try to fill the void.

RI reports that WICH is apparently for sale, along with the rest of Hall’s remaining properties.

I wouldn’t expect any major changes.

At this point, format hardly seems relevant. Advertisers are deserting radio even faster than listeners are, and no adjustment in playlist, personality or overall sound of any station is going to bring them back.

When I lived in New London from 1977-78, 100.9 FM was WTYD branded as Tide. It was a beautiful music station.
It was Tide through about midway of my high school years.. 2000. I Remember discovering the change one day!

I guess everybody giving $30/month made it possible. I don't give $1.00 to K-LOVE. But I put in numerous contest-only entries for the last fundraiser (for those $5,000 Visa budget boosters... to pay off debt and help with high gas prices). Didn't win a single one, and I called probably fifteen times. I figured the chances would be better than trying my luck with a $5 Scratch ticket.

I give my money to local Christian outlets who use the power of Jesus to spread hope across the LOCAL and REGIONAL community. Not to the 'iheart' of Christian Radio.

Can John Fuller. buy them? That would bring him to 5 FMs in the Market.

Right now he has 3. 94.9 WJJF, 106.5 WBMW, and 107.7 WWRX

If he were to buy the Hall stations he would change formats at 99.5 the Translator of 106.5 HD2, which is Countfy like 97.7 WCTY.

I'm ju a t thinking aloud. Maybe movec Bomba from 104 5 to 99.5 and take. 104.5 daark.

And who would buy WILI-FM 98.3/WILI 1400/95.3 Wilimantic isn't a rated market s it?0.

Fuller just bought WCTK/New Bedford-Providence, so it would make logical sense. If he bought WCTY, I wonder if he would simulcast it with WTCK (even though Hall never did this).

I believe 94.9 WJJF counts as a Long Island station for ownership cap purposes

Why is Fuller so bullish on radio at a time when so many others are abandoning ship?
Money to burn?

Buying up your competition and being able to offer different demographics. He had a standalone in providence as i recall... standalones are hard..... same expense as a cluster and only one demographic to sell.

In a way, its part of the reasons my boss bought the other 3 stations in the county.. he knew they were for sale a,d would be much easier to sell ads on 4 stations vs one and now he owns the competition vs dealing with a new owner who would chip away at his profits because they are much more forward thinking (previous owner did nothing with digital and had very little on the stations besides a syndicated morning show on 2 of the 3 signals........ someone else couldve seen that and made a serious dent with some upgrades)

Isn’t that the equivalent of opening a black and white TV store. Why waste money on something with no future.

Radio isnt dead everywhere. Some places are still doing well. And here happens to be one. I wouldnt say great but far from bad.

but were in a unique situation. No tv stations cover news here, one newspaper..... and our original stand alone fm has been "the community station of record" for over a decade which has served us very well. WE are incredibly well connected with EVERYONE in town for that reason but also because my boss was born here went to school here and never left and has owned one station since he was 24. Our standalone flagship has had a very consistent sound in the 15 years hes owned it.

Our situation is unique and very few are this lucky.
