KNX news still has a presence of the new 97.1. They’ve still been doing hourly updates
I've brought this up in the past too, it's been on there for a few years now.
One wonders how long those updates will last. I understand using the FM reports to promote the all news AM 1070. But how long will the sports fans sit through a 60-90 second newscast? If I were the pd and had to do that, I'd make that more promo/less newscast.KNX news still has a presence of the new 97.1. They’ve still been doing hourly updates
I’d imagine so, but what I’m getting at is as of last season the major NFL games were under contract by iHLA. I also believe the contract for those games (and whatever other WW1 PBP packages they offer) are separate contracts from a WW1S contract. Different paperwork for potentially different stations. I don’t believe that by being a WW1S linear stream affiliate that you also get access to any PBP. I have no idea how long iHLA’s marquee football game contract is for, so they could totally be on 97.1 come September, but if the iHLA contract is still in effect for the next few years it’ll have to be broken for them to air elsewhere. I honestly don’t think WW1 would care that much to break their contract early.Affiliation contracts have term limits. They aren't unlimited.
Brock and Alex is ROUGH. Why is Brock even there, Alex keeps talking over him. It felt like listening in to a first date where someone is trying to get the person to like them but never asks questions about them. It’s just one talking. Zero chemistry. What a waste of branding and breath to pitch "KNX 97.1FM" for two years while seemingly ignore it's heritage band the entire time only to fully rebrand (or re-rebrand) as "KNX 1070" once again.
97.1 has had better days and formats and I feel this new bookmark on the signal will not be one of those sunnyside times.
I have zero faith in the product they are pushing here as becoming even moderately successful.
Lakers/Clippers/Kings/Ducks are all out and it's stars are more busy scheduling tee off times these days.
Dodgers/Angels are in the infancy of their season and this station (unless I'm mistaken) seemingly don't have the rights to air either.
I know LA has a chub for the Lakers but I do not think pontificating the success of a basketball team that got quickly eliminated in the playoffs for the next 4-5 months makes for "Great Sports Radio".
If "Derek & Decker" is the flagship voyage, I unfortunately will still bet on the iceberg.

there are some who think this will fail

ESPN LA, AM 570 and 97.1 The Fan — Who Prevails in the Los Angeles Sports Radio Battle?
"Whether Los Angeles can truly sustain four full-time sports stations remains to be seen, but one thing is undeniable: the battle lines have officially been drawn."barrettmedia.com
fccdata.org shows that both transmit from Mt. Wilson, but the 93.1 antenna is higher, and so it's coverage is significantly larger, despite having about the same ERP as 97.1. I have noticed this myself, driving out to the I.E. How useful this is, when the 93.1 signal is an HD2, I can't say.Why are they on 93.1 HD2? The 97.1 signal is one of the strongest in LA
My thoughts exactly when I tuned in today. She's great at being a TV broadcaster but she is really annoying on the radio.Brock and Alex is ROUGH. Why is Brock even there, Alex keeps talking over him. It felt like listening in to a first date where someone is trying to get the person to like them but never asks questions about them. It’s just one talking. Zero chemistry.
Back the Brinks truck for (Petros and) Money.I listened to the first day of programming in the car. You can actually listen to the stream on YouTube.
I don't give this lineup three months before there's a change. The station has amateur podcaster vibe right now. The energy for a first day launch was pretty weak. They assumed everyone knew who they were. They didn't really give any host introductions at the beginning of segments which would have been helpful for a first day launch.
They pretty much only talk about the Lakers and the Dodgers. The production quality is pretty bad. The hosts would ask the producer to play clips and they didn't have them ready.
I feel like it's weird for Derek Fisher to be talking about baseball, it's very unnatural. Brock Vereen and Alex Curry have no on-air chemistry. The silver lining is Doug McKain. That man should host mornings solo. He knows his Dodgers.
If I was Audacy, I would back up the Brinks truck to Petros & Money, get them on FM, and run Doug in the AM, P&M in the PM, and syndicated programming through the rest of the blocks.
I must admit, when I listened to US sports radio (online) for the first time, I was surprised there wasn't news at the top of the hour (except some having a sports update at the top of the hour). One wonders how long those updates will last. I understand using the FM reports to promote the all news AM 1070. But how long will the sports fans sit through a 60-90 second newscast?

On iHeart-owned KLAC AM 570 LA Sports, 15-30 second "news headline updates" produced by sister station KFI AM 640 appear about once an hour. One wonders how long those updates will last. If I were the pd and had to do that, I'd make that more promo/less newscast.
Try this: "Now on KNX AM 1070, catch the latest on Governor Newsom's new tax plans, Mayor Bass reacting to the rise in crime and President Trump on the stalemate in Iran. Plus weather and traffic every 10 minutes. KNX AM 1070 your 24/7 home for news." How long did that take? Sure you're still breaking format on 97.1. But it's more obviously a promotion to redirect the news audience to its new (exclusive) home. Same purpose; better execution.
That promo took 20 seconds. Not 60. Not long enough to distract your new sports audience.
If the goal is to build FM Sports on 97.1, don't throw a big obstacle in its way.
Yeah it wasn’t ideal. I think mornings have a real chance to make an impact. Middays was entertaining. But, afternoons I just couldn’t get through. I switched back to petros and money.I listened to the first day of programming in the car. You can actually listen to the stream on YouTube.

KNX News is still on 97.1 at 5:45am. Are they just not doing the Fan programming overnight? From 2 AM PT onward, the Fan L.A. stream has been carrying the audio of...
KNX News 1070!
(Just can't let go; can't quit it! 😉)
