Pittsburgh ratings.

I never see it here , but hey its nice to see them:
How is Kiss growing so much? 6.2? Otherwise what I would expect.

How is Kiss growing so much?
They have the second longest-running morning show in the market and a solid roster of local talent for most of the day. They are a heritage brand at this point and with Star being over 50% gold these days, they’re pretty much the only place to hear anything current, even if they’re far less aggressive than they once were. Plus, the music cycle is on a bit of an upswing with recent releases from core artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, etc.

Well get this. The holidays they were at a 3.5 , now 6.2. Explain that! Also , you’re right , maybe Star played a part. The playlist is such a train wreck now. It doesn’t even have a format. Not current enough for CHR , too much rap for Hot AC. Adult CHR but with rap? Lol.

Also, saw the news where WPGB has gone to national music logs. It's often the lowest radio station in the market for commercial music. Is it's sole purpose to clear Bobby Bones in the market? It hasn't sounded good since they fired JD Greene.

Does that mean the playlist is a dupe of IHeart Country Radio? The flip to country wasn’t as IHeart hoped , maybe keeping NewsTalk would’ve been better?

Yes, the music logs are identical to the national iHeartCountry channel rather than being programmed in house.

It's very common in smaller markets (Erie's 93.9 The Wolf and other similar sized markets typically do this for all of their stations) but many PPM markets still have local uniqueness to their music stations

Orlando has a similar phenomenon with our iHeart CHR and Audacy Hot AC. Our CHR, WXXL, which is up 5.8 to 6.2 in the monthlies and regularly exceeds what most CHR stations are doing. WOMX, our Audscy Hot AC, is down this month 4.4 to 3.8 and is often out of the Top 10. Both stations are market staples dating back 30+ years.

Star is a bit of a mess at this point. I think that's likely part of why 96.1 is rising in ratings. Star is all over the road music-wise and not in a good way. Sometimes it's gold heavy, sometimes not. I never know what I'm going to get when I tune in, it feels, and that's not necessarily a good thing for a radio station.

Mix in Orlando is the same way. Sometimes I hear a sweep of currents that make it sound like a CHR. Other times it's 3 or 4 golds from the 2000s or late 90s in a row.

I was hoping Kasper would have made this station more than it seems he's been able to. He's one of the best programmers and air talent in the biz and I was excited when he came to Pittsburgh.

Then again, he may be achieving the desired results for iHeart and his priorities are with the national format.

I really don’t understand the move to national programming on 104.7. It’s not like they’re saving any money going that route. Middays were tracked from Atlanta by Angie Ward and nights were tracked by Travis of 105.9 The X, and both of them are still with the company on their other stations, so I don’t see the point. Does taking away one single Selector license to schedule music locally really impact the company’s bottom line? Although I agree the station sounded much better in its early years, it was still the best option for country in Pittsburgh by a mile until the recent changes. Y108 is a trainwreck with a forgettable morning show consisting of a former board op and a former sales rep, cookie cutter Audacy syndication much of the day, and a playlist that can be as unfocused and confusing as Star’s. They only play about 3 currents an hour and most of them haven’t even broken the top 40 on the chart. Hopefully the new PD can help to turn things around at least music-wise… doubt the budget is there to make changes to the on-air lineup. Pittsburgh is in desperate need for a country station that’s at least tolerable to listen to. It used to have 3 of them… now it has none.
