Urban One to Acquire KKDA and KRNB, Divest KZMJ

Actually, I was thinking more in line of will any of the air personalities from 94.5 move to 97.9, 104.5 or 105.7 in the coming days or if everyone from 94.5 gets let go.
I would think all those "live and local" personalities from Service would have more to worry about. I don't see RO dumping Rickey, DL, or POTC...

Radio One is keeping most of the Service staff. It’s in the contract. That was a point of emphasis in the negotiations.

My big questions are will they move R&B to 97.9, will they keep Steve Harvey and what happens to The Beat? I think Beat’s staff should be more worried than the Service staff.

I've always heard that RO doesn't pay that well, while Service personalities makes the big bucks.

Definitely not Steve Nice. Who do you think is doing the mixing from 2pm-6pm Saturdays on Skip Cheathum's Day Party on 94.5?
That's what I have been wondering. When Fuzion takes over 94.5, will all those KZMJ folks get let go? Will Smiley and Hughley just be online only for a while until Radio One decides what they are going to do with KBFB/KRNB/KKDA-FM. Like I have posted earlier....do they want 2 Urban AC's and one Urban or 2 Urbans and 1 Urban AC.

In Philly and Atlanta, Radio One operates an R&B outlet, an adult R&B outlet, and a R&B oldies outlet to allocate 3 FMs in the R&B space.

Of course, they also have stations in other formats -- country, AC, classic rock, news/talk, regional Mexican -- in Houston, Charlotte, and Indy.

I would assume they keep the stronger K104 and KRNB brands, so the question is what do they do with KBFB?

They might do a different R&B format on that one to keep Steve Harvey off iHeart's hands.

I was thinking they would move Majic to 97.9, since it is more upbeat than KRNB, and 105.7 go older like Classix in Philly. I honestly believe KRNB does so well, because it is the lesser of the two weak signal evils.

KRNB outranks and has higher cume than both KBFB and KZMJ on a rimshot. Majic’s execution date is fast aproaching.

I don’t think it makes sense to keep KKDA and KBFB. They’re the same format. The question are they flipping Beat to an urban or non urban format? Nobody knows. Same with whether they’ll keep R&B on 105.7 or move it to 97.9.

Hopefully they will infuse the programming of KRNB and Majic. They need to kill that Quietstorm seven days a week. Having to listen to slow jams seven days a week is pretty boring. It's not that much love in the world! 😂

I like the Quiet Storm, although 7 days a week is excessive. I prefer slower and mid tempo R&B, and if you look at the most successful Urban ACs in PPM markets, they usually follow that formula.

That would be a good move to move KRNB to the Cedar Hill 97.9 stick and give DFW a full signal Urban AC, but either Smiley, or Harvey and/ or Hughley will get dropped. Also the Morning Hustle gets kicked to the curb as well. Another thing could be moving the Beat to one of the HD signals and informing everyone to use streaming platform to listen.

Radio One just needs to kill off The Morning Hustle. The show has never gained any ratings traction, and most of Radio One’s urbans have significantly underperformed since they moved Rickey Smiley to UAC.
