Do radio stations do live radio giveaways anymore

I don't know what time it starts, but it should be over with by 10. If it started at 9, that would be an hour. It is possible it starts at 10 and goes to 11. An hour earlier would be more reasonable.

Or better yet, play music. The talk between the songs could be people saying what they want to sell or what they want to buy. I've never heard one of these shows lasting more than 30 minutes anywhere else.

You say it should be over by 10.. by y our standards.. and your many past posts shows you to be an outlier with the usual. Clearly most of the stations listeners and the station dont agree with you, thankfully.

You say that, but I find it hard to believe the listeners of the three stations involved feel that way. I want my country music.

No, please don't tell me that what's on FM is country.

IF the listeners revolted or protested enough, they wouldnt be doing it, because if that was the case and listeners protested/revolted, theyd be losing money.

And yes, whats on FM is country.. modern day country. But again, i wouldnt expect someone whos music tastes arre clearly.. old and out of touch with modern society to understand hat

This is the worst idea I’ve ever heard.

ACtuall, that isnt the worst idea ever.

WCTY 97.7 Norwich, CT used to do tradio 7 to 11am Sundays (or was it saturdays? i forget).
Tgheyd take 3 or 4 calls, play a song, 3 or 4 calls, play a song, commercial.. rinse and repeat

Swap shop is still hugely popular on somye stations
Even todyay I might do it if I could give it a "special sauce". Around 20 years ago on KTNQ in Los Angeles we did what loosely would be called "Jokes and Junk" ("Chistes y Chacharas") where listeners would call and have to tell a joke to be allowed to offer an item for sale or trade. We had a veteran, well known DJ do the show and it was very fun to listen to because the people were so genuine. Of course, we had our staff call screener pre-qualify the callers and the DJ himself knew how to deal with the public. It was on Saturday mornings before our all day batch of doctors, lawyers, a priest and the like that got top 10 in LA 18-49 ratings.

You're not a common listener. Just by the fact that you post on a radio message board proves that.

The station you refer to was serving its audience to make money. Not to serve the guy driving from out of town wanting to listen to music.

A normal Country station is seeking a female leaning audience between 25 and 54 years old to make money. That is CLEARLY not you.

I could see with certain demographics and formats that might work if it wasnt all phone calls or call selling stuff.

Where i could also see it working is if someone in Brazil like Mauricio Rabelo hosted a show on a local EBC station and not the Acional AM/SW Network and made it a social hour.. as thats what his show is now.. it might work

The past two years on the way to the mountains I've had to wait an hour to hear country music because the station I wanted to listen to was doing a Swap Shop with other co-owned stations around the area. Ridiculous. That sort of thing should be finished by 10:00, but no, they wait until 11.
Now I'm curious, what station is this?

That show sounds fun! Did any of the doctors, lawyers and the priest ever walk into a bar?

you also, mistakenly think everyone thinks like you or that your preferences, which are in the minority, should be the majority

No, but they were fun at staff meetings! None of the ones I recruited had any radio experience, so they learned from our format and from dealing with each other. And they all thought that they "owned" their show time... had to create rules on how often they could mention their office location and phone number. None were paid, which our GM loved.

This is a classic leaning station and I imagine its audience is a lot older and more male leaning.

And I still find it hard to believe the people who live there are willing to wait so long for their country music each day.

again, you are not the target audience and whatever youre age is, your listening habits make you an outlier.

If all businesses ignored "outliers", then Baskin-Robbins would only have three flavors of ice cream.

Sooner or later, radio stations will have to start listening to outliers, if the group of "inliners" who are listening to them continues to shrink.

But the target audience for this particular station is probably not 25-54 females. And I was just saying it's strange to me that people don't object to waiting an hour for their music.
Your issue seems to be with the fact that the Swap and Shop show is two hours long... If they didn't have enough demand from local listeners and advertisers that wouldn't be the case. YOU ARE AN OUT OF TOWNER. NOT THE AUDIENCE. For many small town stations.

You are on a forum full of radio professionals and educated fans. After all these years if you are unable to grasp what we're all telling you, perhaps its not the right forum for you...

I get what you are saying.

It is an hour-long show. Most stations that do this type of show do it earlier, and my problem with it was that most stations that play music have moved on to music by 10.
