RO selling off the Mix signals

Is this correct? Break the simulcast just for the Station ID? That seems like a lot of trouble for nothing. Why would they even bother?
It's so you don't OD on IDs.

Nobody have any comment about U1 actually not keeping the call letters after they went to the trouble of putting it in the sales contract?
No comments that I've seen yet, anyway.

W229CF-FM will certainly change. According to BBN's webpage, they have 62 Hispanic stations, but ONLY ONE in the United States (in Milwaukee, of all places). Will Charlotte get another, or will they do something else with 93.7.

I'd say they'll move it to Spanish, definitely keep it regardless, all comments from this armchair.

It's increasingly common for networks like K-Love and BBN to play out the local station ID from the satellite receiver at the transmitter site.

That's why you're hearing a separate ID on 100.9 - they're receiving BBN at the transmitter site and there's a 100.9-specific legal ID that's stored in the receiver there and played out once an hour when the network fires a trigger.

There ya go, that's how they do it.

W229CF-FM is still broadcasting BBN currently as of writing this now (which is funny since the new WYFQ 100.9 essentially serves as a more bigger station in coverage area versus W229CF being just a small localized translator)
Seems like unnecessary duplication. Unless they change to a Spanish format or sell to someone else. But if they would sign it off the air you could hear B-93.7 from Greenville in Charlotte once again.

Lets see .. Joy FM in the Charlotte area:

88.1 Hickory
91.3 Uptown & Winston Salem
95.9 Lexington & Boone
89.3 Chesterfield
89.5 Asheboro
98.5 Indian Trail
100.1 Kings Mountain

Plus I think they are/were on an HD signal
of WDAV and WEND.

No doubt they are all over the place, but with that being said, can all of those be heard in the Charlotte metro? Me thinks not.

I listed some which share the same frequency or have signal serving adjacent to some part of the metro, such as Boone or Asheboro or Lexington.

I'm quite amused at their Flea Powered 7 Watt signal on Crowders Mountain 100.1 W261AP, which starts to fade just 2-3 miles away from the transmitter tower (shared with WBAV), easily within line of sight of the tower & summit, and signal barely reaching much of Kings Mountain and Gastonia itself.

i'll be doing a recording in the form of using my 2 iPhones: one to record on standby with one radio to either WLNK 107.9 or WBT-HD2 (which i'm sure gets its feed from WLNK and not WMXG) for their flip to BBN, and another to record a separate radio to WMXG 99.3 flip to Augusta Radio Fellowship Institute (note that i've been having this plan in my head for a few weeks now, so i suppose tonight's the night that i'll put that into play)

now i haven't made much of a profile of myself here since i am new to using this site, but i'll be uploading under my YT channel JayCLTWXEAS (which on there i mainly film just weather radio/EAS alert captures, but stuff like filming a station format switchoff can be part of my "miscellaneous" content)
just uploaded my video going through the shutoff of "Mix" on the initial day of June 1st on WLNK/WMXG/WBT-HD2, along with any additional changes going 3 days ahead into the 4th (when 100.9 would start broadcasting as WYFQ)

Since we've got two threads going in the same area about BBN, wasn't sure where to put this, but since I'm here... Wondered if they still had 93.5 in Wadesboro, since the callsign on it was WYFQ. Yep, just checked and it's WYHG, a little departure from their usual formula, but reckon something's gotta give. :D)

small update on WMXG-FM 99.3, since me discovering this since 6/27 (though it could’ve been added earlier) they now have programming data fully adopted by GNN (though they don’t have a program name)

additionally, WMXG now has their own new station ID as "WMXG Chester 99.3 FM, the new GNN Radio station serving Rock Hill and Fort Mill" (this in contrast to them previously having "You're listening to WILF Monroeville, and WMXG Chester" in their early days of broadcasting GNN earlier this month)

LOL, that's almost a paper translator, to paraphrase something we used to say in ham radio. In the words of Jed Clampett, pitiful, just pitiful.

Is Radio One looking for another radio station to bring back WLNK or the Mix format? Or is it over and done with? I guess with 102.9 and 104.7 offering some variation of AC or variety hits, there may no longer be a place or need for Hot AC in the market. And they may be satisfied with the properties they now have. remaining.

I don’t see any reason or scenario they’d bring it back.

Radio One is now Urban One. The name should be a big hint.

Urban One is the parent company of Radio One, which is their audio division. The company has diversified beyond its core black targeted businesses in multiple markets such as Houston, Indianapolis, and Charlotte hence the ownership of WFNZ and WBT. Mix wasn't making the company money so they sold it.

You're trying to inject race where there isn't.

But to answer the other's questions, no Mix or WLNK is NOT likely coming back.
