Spanish spots on 650am

Checking out the AM band and stoped when I heard a Spanish psa and to my surprise it was airing on 650 am . Is that normal on 650am?
Yes I have heard them before first time I heard it I thought a new format but then when commercial break ended it went back to regular programming.

What was the context? Was it during syndicated programming or local? The time of day would also be useful.

Your post suggests you were listening on a radio, not streaming. Correct?

At one time, radio stations referred to certain programming as NEMO: No emanating from main office. That's likely the situation here.

Yes sir I was scrolling to AM RADIO it was on a Saturday. I don’t remember all the details but do remember a lady’s saying UN MENSAJE DE EL AD COUNCIL y esta emisora.

My bet is it was a syndicated show and the mistake was made from the outside source. Not the local station.

That was probably intended as a fill spot, to be covered by local commercials.

The reason I asked about streaming is that streaming servers will insert spots based on your browsing history.

For those not familiar: KIKK 650 airs the Westwood One Sports Network. It was previously BetMGM and BetQL, and before that, CBS SportsRadio. It basically exists to clear national programming, and I assume it is a sales throw-in for clients buying SportsRadio 610.

I rarely listen to 650 any more, but I have come across Spanish language PSAs on the station over the past few years. Nothing new; they appear to be inserted locally and not by the national network. There is a lot of local PSA/promo fill on the station when it is not passing through the optional national break fill.

With the impending launch of 95.7 The Fan there has been some speculation as to the future of 650. Does Audacy keep it going as is? Or do they sell it or turn in the license?

650 is about to get a call letter change after 65 years as KIKK, as that call is going to 610 when the FM simulcast launches. Will the KILT call move to 650? In that case I would think Audacy would probably hold on to the station, though there might be some lingering sales confusion with the local SportsTalk effort. If 650 gets some random call it might mean they’re thinking of unloading it. But who knows, just speculating. Perhaps the current KKHH call on 95.7 goes to 650 instead. Will be keeping an eye out for the call change applications for 610, 650 and 95.7.

That 250 watts really got out thanks to the moist and salty tower site.
Not to mention its frequency in the lower end of the AM band where groundwave is very efficient. The day signal is pretty decent as far as open range goes, but the low field strength means it suffers under bridges and among urban building density.

A few years back there was (apparently) a timer failure on the 650 transmitter, and it remained on all night for a couple of days. Driving around Houston the unintentional 250 watt night signal was actually quite good, with WSM only a weak background presence.

I miss CBS SportsRadio on 650, which was a nice national alternative whenever the local sportstalkers veered into annoying nonsense.
