10 AM on 96.9, and...

Didn't Sunny Jo White spin Country at one point? No, that was Karen Blake instead. ;D

No, Sunny was doing evenings at the old WVBF and got cut when they flipped to country.

Actually, they could go on with this indefinitely if they want. They have quite a few more domain names left to go.

When Greater Media flipped 96.9 from Smooth Jazz to Country, they went for about a month commercial free.

They may blow through a few more formats before this is over.

Looks like the new station name is gonna be Hot 96.9. There's a new Twitter page: http://www.twitter.com/hot969boston and they have a hidden Facebook page as well (re-directs back to your profile): http://www.facebook.com/hot969boston. So much for the Beat Of Boston.... I just hope this station isn't like the Power stunt....

Sure sounds like it's going to be some flavor of non-rock CHR. Guess there's no such thing as a format "hole" when it comes to stations that might have even a trace of 55+ appeal.

I'm wondering could that just be to throw us off? The thing that really caught my eye is the Facebook page. They haven't created one for any of the other stunts....

It's been awhile (if ever considering the new logos, streams, etc.) since there has been a format change stunt that has been as long and elaborate as this.

Could be. Still, I'll be stunned if Classic Rock That Rocks (or Easy 96.9 or Classic Country 96.9 or 97 Gold, for that matter) turns out to be the "winning" format.

When was the last time anything like this has ever happened?

Now here's a conspiracy theory for you: with the advent of PPM ratings, could GM have contracted with Arbitron to give them minute-by-minute ratings during the stunting, to see which format draws and keeps the most listeners? Then they switch to that format permanently....

Hmmm...progressivetalk969 has not been registered yet ;D

It can happen if enough of us make our voices heard. I'm doing my part. Followed @WTKK on Twitter, am letting them know my opinion. The station, for the most part, is sounding great today. Just need some tweaks, a bit less of the cornball late '70s/early '80s Arena Rock, a bit more edgy stuff like Blue Oyster Cult, Guns N' Roses, Alice in Chains, and the old stand-bys like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd, etc. A winning format in what remains a rock-oriented city. At least for a few more years, might as well go with it. The hipsters and trendsters already have their stations.
What remains a rock-oriented city? What decade are you living in? Rock clubs replaced by dance/techo clubs. BCN and FNX gone. All Boston has now is a Worcester rock station.

Hmm I could do that to throw people off but I don't know if I'd want to spend the extra $ to
privatize the listing...

Especially if you've hired two people associated with CHR/rhythmic/urban formats and you're rolling the dice that you aren't forced to throw them into a classic rock format because the People Meters tell you that's what's retaining the 25-44 female listeners. As if that's ever going to happen. Of course, you're under no obligation to make it a fair competition; it's not like rigging a contest. You could always go into it with the intention of never going with classic rock unless it absolutely blew the other formats out of the water.

Re: Latest for 96.9....

...also heard on a transmitter from Great Blue Hill in Milton, and I believe done from studios on Guest St.
They might as well switch the call letters and make it "WAAF 97.7 Boston...also heard on
WKAF 107.3 Worcester!"
And believe me if Entercom didn't need the 97.7 to put on WAAF we long ago would have heard
"Coming up next, Howie Carr on WRKO, FM 97.7 and AM 680!"

And WZLX.

(and maybe it was small potatoes, but just last Sat night I was in a rock club in Somerville,
ironically named Radio)

I like the idea of Blue Oyster Cult, Guns N' Roses and Alice in Chains being "edgy" in 2013.

10 am on Monday and 96.9 The Bone lives on for at least another hour with "Dirty White Boy" by Foreigner.

It looks as if whatever they have planned will be taking place at either 11am or Noon.

I really think Entercom missed an opportunity here to bring WRKO to FM to capitalize on the demise of 96.9. If they want WAAF to be Boston's rock station (they abandoned their city of license years ago), they could have taken the WAAF calls as Bob suggests to 97.7 and put WRKO on 107.3. That immediately dismisses the signal fade out that Howie has whined about all these years on WRKO's signal after dark.

And I get 97.7 quite well in Metrowest and Worcester so those that want to, can still listen to WAAF.

My guess...and that's all it is. Will be a hybrid Hot A/C with a pop-alt lean. Targeting 18-49 with a 65-35 female lean.

They'll play Bruno Mars, Adele, The Lumineers, & FUN.

Typical hour in midday will look something like this:

Kelly Clarkson Stronger
Green Day Wake Me Up When September Ends
Pink Try
Calling Wherever You Will Go
Imagine Dragons It's Time
Adele Someone Like You
Maroon 5 One More Night
Linkin Park Shadow Of The Day
Mumford & Sons I Will Wait
Ellie Goulding Lights
John Mayer Your Body Is A Wonderland
Matchbox 20 Overjoyed

It will bridge what's going on at Mix with the absence of WFNX. Which is why you see CBS reacting. Expect it to hurt them.
There's gold in that hybrid format. GM must smell blood in the water with CBS being hyper-focused on their Sports Network.

Just my thoughts from 2600 miles West.

I know you are a pro and usually agree with your posts about 95-99% of the time, but I have to respectfully disagree with you there. I guarantee you NOBODY who used to listen to WFNX would listen regularly to a station with a playlist like that.
