100.3 - The New Buzz' Promos For "Rush Radio"

Three six-packs for Dittohead1 for giving us the right rundown. Now, if some of the numbnutts who visit this board could read and then understand what they read, maybee it would make some cents to them.

This came from All Access this afternoon.
CLEAR CHANNEL/GREENSBORO has named ANGIE VUYST as the new PD of Talk WGBT (RUSH RADIO 94.5). VUYST will transfer from CC/GRAND RAPIDS where she is the PD at heritage News/Talk station WOOD-A.

RUSH RADIO will not be your Grandfather’s Talk station!"

If you use Oldsmobile's slogan, your product might end up just like Oldsmobile (I know how this board works, so please chart the time between when Oldsmobile started using this little "positioner" to the time when Olds went Tango Uniform)

AND

Since more than half of Rush's listeners were born when Truman was POTUS (or before), then it will be PRECISELY grandaddy's cup o' tea

well, the AARP demographic is the only consistent "live and on the air"
audience that radio has today. Rush just might be on to something.

LET'S REVIEW! ... 100.3--Will ... play rock and roll music ... The new FORMAT ... lots and lots of gold ... they (100.3) are changing ... I hope this clears up some things
So, this new Rush Radio on 100.3 is going to be a "golden oldies" station? That's good because Greensboro could really use a nice oldies station.

NO! Rush Radio will be on 94.5, replacing La Preciosa. To review, this is what all 9 CC stations (in the GSO and Raleigh clusters) will sound like in 2010:

93.9 - Will remain R/AC--- for now, anyway--- as 93.9 Kiss FM, under a new PD if Chris Shebel moves over to 100.7 as rumored (see one of the many Rush Radio WRDU threads).

94.5 - This station, currently Spanish as La Preciosa 94.5, will revert to the English language in January when Rush Limbaugh and his cronies take over.

99.5 - Will play Christmas music through December 25, then revert to its regular AC format.

100.3 - Has already changed formats earlier this year and will rock on under its current moniker 100.3 The Buzz.

100.7 - Will continue to play "classic rock" as 100.7 The River. Rumors are going around the WRDU threads about River PD Brian Taylor possibly moving to the new 106.1 WRDU with Chris Shebel moving over from Kiss to replace him on The River.

104.1 - No known changes to CC-GSO's cash cow, country-formatted WTQR, but, to quote Lynn Redgrave from one of her old Weight Watchers commercials, "Just beware of wolves"... (I think you know which Entercom station I am referring to here...)

105.1 - No known changes to G105, either...

105.7 - Changed formats in May 2009 and became top-40 formatted "105.7 Hit Music Now." Has been simulcasting G105's Showgram since August. I would have kept the Kiss name and tweaked the logo a bit to fit this "Kiss"-type format--- they did keep the WMKS calls--- but so far, it seems to be working, aside from that crappy signal that carried over from when they killed the old WFMX back in 2006.

106.1 - Ahh, here's the big change in Raleigh. They've already done away with the country format--- God only knows what kind of stunt they'll run between Dec. 26 (when the Christmas music they're currently playing ends for the season) and the announced "Rush Radio" launch in January--- and it's also up in the air what the Tar Heel Sports Network will do with the Carolina sports broadcasts after the WRDU format change is complete. Will the games stay on 106.1, as they did when the rock RDU died and became The Rooster? Will CC move the games back to 100.7, WRDU's predecessor as the Carolina FM flagship? Or will Capitol Broadcasting go for the sweep and move the games to either 99.9 or 101.5, consolidating the N.C. State broadcasts to one station to make room for Carolina on the other? Questions, questions, and more questions...

Hey Ditto:
Maybe they should put Air America on and they'll get a bunch of listeners. Who listens to Rush and Hannity any way? The attitude of most folks is "if I don't like it, or listen to it, it can't be any good". I bet even the ratings of "right wing" talk radio are in dispute too. Lets all do a letter writing campaign and demand more liberal talk. That's what listeners want isn't it Mr. Ditto? Who in their right mind would dare dispute you!

I don't believe I've said anything that you're assigning to me. I certainly haven't championed liberal talk radio, as you insinuate. I am smart enough (and I believe you are, as well) to realize that the death of conservative talk radio has been predicted for a long time. I am advocating for telling the truth about the demographics and business practices of Clear Channel. I am advocating for telling the truth about what Rush/Hannity/Beck are doing under PPM. They are not doing as well because people are no longer "voting" and reality has set in. It is also not in dispute that CC will be paying so much money for the rights to Rush/Hannity/Beck that they will not have any money to hire decent talent for the local slots. I'm not quite sure how this is good for the market or for radio. It is preposterous for Tim Satterfield to say "This will not be your grandfather's talk radio station", but Tim is being a good soldier and he is doing what he must. Dick Harlow has also said some things in the press that are quite humorous, but he was just carrying on as he was ordered.

If you need someone to be pissed at triadnewsman, then let it be me. I'm just not sure why...

WOW! Lots of information here for something that I am not sure anybody really gives a flying @@I$* about. CC has made some real bone head decisions over the years and this may be the one that take first place at the county fair. In Raleigh and pretty much in Greensboro Curtis is going to be stiing pretty. Competition has cut it's own throat and now Curtis is wide open to restructure his station (s) and take the whole ball of wax home. It is my understanding that 94.5 was billing fairly well and that none of that revenue will translate over to Rush. As I am told there is less than 20 grand on the books for January for "Rush Radio". Now that should tell you something right there. Curtis is now out from under the high priced Rush fees and the daily inventory. Do not for one minute think that Phil Zackery is not a real slick guy that has a plan to win in 2010. Dick Harlow is a good guy and will weather the storm. I'm told that Kim in Greensboro is serving up drinks at the station in the afternoons and is pretty much out of the loop on most of this.

Good grief! Is Kim drinking again? I wondered how she was going to deal with "Rush Radio". Guess that answers it.
And, yes, don't underestimate Phil Zachary. He's smart and innovative, as are many others working for Curtis. I think they'll figure it out.

Can't blame her for drinking. I'd be tossing back a few if I was in her spot. 2010 will not be an easy year for Curtis, BUT they do have one thing CC doesn't have: TIME. The math doesn't work and CC cannot continue to service the debt and they will be filing for bankruptcy before the end of 2010 (safest prediction ever). If they do file Chapter 11, would some judge force them to sell assets? Like clusters? Like ones in certain markets in NC? And, if so, who would be in a position to buy them? We may get answers to those questions before the end of 2010 as well.

And, yes, Spanish is a fast-growing format, so I'm not sure why they picked 94.5 to flip. I like 100.3, but it probably should have been the frequency to flip. I suppose they felt that 105.7 had too much invested in it, but who knows. Maybe that will be Spanish by summer. Hee hee
