100.7 the River flipping to active rock after the holidays?

I know this has been discussed in a few places, but is there a legitimate chance that Clear Channel could flip the station after the holidays to an active rock format? I believe this more now, since WBBB changed into a Jack-like format, the Raleigh-Durham market doesn't have a true rock station (unless you count places where WVBZ or WRCQ can be picked up). I don't believe CC-Raleigh would try country, AC, or oldies again, so this is the best guess for a new format. However what remains to be seen, if this happens, if this is a totally Premiere Choice outlet, or some live and local jocks included.

??? ??? ??? Ha Ha Ha! That shows me what you know about Clear Channel!!!!BIGAPE!

This year Clear Channel Corporate required all markets to flip one station to Christmas. The pre-holiday format continues on 12/26/11. ;)

Clear Channel typically flips its AC, Classic Hits, or sometimes Hot AC's to all-Christmas. If those formats are absent in a market, a station won't flip.

I think 100.7 after the holidays is anyone's guess - since 100.7 is sorta classic hits, then what I said above explains it.

Dallas and Philly are Clear Channel's largest markets where they don't own a classic hits or AC station, however they own a Hot AC, Mix 102.9/KDMX in DFW and Mix 106.1/WISX in PHL, and neither have flipped as of 11/27/2011.

I still smell some kind of a flip coming after the holidays.

I don't think they'll flip. The station does alright in the ratings, so why should they? Nothing they could flip to would make sense financially or ratings-wise. I think they'll be The River after the holidays.

What's the possibility 100.7 comes back with a better and updated Classic Rock format like Clear Channels Brew stations or the recently launched 106.7 The D in Detroit. Seeing as 96.1 has tweaked their format I could see 100.7 going this route. I don't think they will go Active like the Buzz but a "Next Generation Of Classic Rock" format like The Brew stations or The D could very well happen. What do you guys think of that tweaking of the format on 100.7?

Now that you mention it, I can see that happening as well. I've checked the D out a few times, I like what they've done with the station. I could see a lot of former WBBB listeners heading to that station too.

EDIT: Jock-wise, I guess they'd run Premium Choice, if anything? I would see them maybe bringing back Bob & Tom or Lex & Terry for mornings, but the rest of the day, jockless or PC.

100.3 runs Premium Choice

I know WVBZ is live & local in morning drive w/ Matt Pencola, but the rest is for sure PC. I'll never forget it, back in February when tickets for that big Carolina Rebellion concert in Charlotte were going on sale, Aly (who's based at WKLS/Atlanta) mentioned the concert and a few of the bands playing, however, they must have been running an old VT, because she mentioned about tickets going on sale "NEXT FRIDAY".

I don't understand the hype around the Buzz. I think the only thing good about that station is Pencola (plus the only thing thats local about that station) I listened to it for the whole summer when it signed on. It got old to me because they kept playing the same songs (which they still do to this day). I don't know if people know that it's piped in from somewhere else or what but I was never impressed with The Buzz. (Although their liners are pretty hilarious). I like 100.3 better when it was The Buzzard. Sounded alot like 96-3 ROV.

A lot of people really didn't know about the Buzz being from "out of the area" (as I told people). I just hope if WRVA-FM does flip tomorrow (or 1/1), they don't try to keep the same PC jocks, seeing as the Buzz has considerable listenership out towards RTP, Durham, and Chapel Hill, the casual listener might catch on to something.

(on a side note, the River didn't run the Beatles Breakfast this morning, so out of curiosity, I checked the show website, just in case there wasn't a show produced this week.. there was, it was (obviously) Beatles Christmas music)

Don't get excited about a change tomorrow. The DJ (voice tracked I'm sure) said this morning that the regular River music is back tomorrow.

I've heard that, too. I think "Classic Hits" will back back at the same place it was 2 months ago...or somewhere there-abouts...

New imaging and more Pop and R&B songs. More of a mainstream Classic Hits (Oldies).
Not far from KIX 102.9 which has had some nice growth the past few months. One of those stations will go away, eventually.

100.7 does have a signal advantage.

They came back as a classic hits/oldies station, somewhat like I predicted (although not as drastic). More soft Chicago, Elton John, etc and Mamas and Papas, Beach Boys, Turtles, Zombies-type 60s stuff. 80s have been cut back, as well. Clear Channel is really in to the format lately. Most of the remaining "classic rock" titles (that would not typically be heard on classic hits stations) have been pulled, as well. I think I would have renamed the station, though. The River has been associated with so many different kinds of music.

This is basically going back to Oldies 100.7's format, but, of course, more updated for the times. Wonder if they'll start pushing the "O" word like they have been in a lot of other markets.

Now that you mention it I do notice it's a bit softer. They had started going this direction pre-Christmas though.

I can't see Kix winning this one. Bad signal and overall IMO just not a good station. It sounded a lot better 2-3 years ago as Y102.9.

KIX is just a lousy station overall and an embarrassment to the call letters. I didn't think it sounded all that great as Y102.9, but certainly better than it sounds now. Of course, whenever I get a chance to hear them now, it seems like it's the same old canned Tom Kent stuff.
