100.7 the River flipping to active rock after the holidays?

River is playing Eurythmics, Beach Boys, Rascals, Earth/Wind/Fire, etc - definitely straight classic hits now. Reminds me of the WTRG days. Clear is really seeing success with it in the past couple of years, it certainly is better than the weird hybrid they had for much of the year. It is softer. Agree that it sounds better than 102.9.

Maybe Curtis should put Pulse on 102.9 if 100.7 wins the classic hits competition. I think it has potential on a signal that covers Raleigh better.

Memo to CC, though - "Babe Of The Day" doesn't seem appropriate on the website anymore, IMO

And I agree. Babe of the Day not classic hits friendly.
 
Seems they're a bit hesitant to go as 'old' as a lot of the Clear Channel classic hits stations have, such as WODC, WRIT, WJGH, etc (which don't include much 80s).

Indeed, Chuck. Not the one I'm familiar with, either. The station never sounded better than when you were at the helm.
 
Wow radiorealtor! Smooooth! I was still on 7-mid so it was pretty early. I think I only did that shift for 6 or 7 months.
 
This new imaging is really not that good compared to the old stuff using Nick Michaels. I can tell Shebel must have had a hand in it. That isn't a bad thing, because generally what he does sounds great, but I think the man is out of his comfort zone doing soft classic hits.

That's ok!! My mid-day work there was MUCH better than my time 7p-Mid. It took those 6 or 7 months for Doug to whip me into shape!
 
The biggest difference I'm noticing between 100.7 and 102.9 is that 102.9 plays more disco/R&B, a genre 100.7 still seems to be shying away from. 100.7's playlist is tighter. At times, it seems like 100.7 plays more older stuff, but it varies. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be listening more to 100.7, I think, but it's pretty cool to have 2 classic hits stations in the market.
 
Atlanta has a similar set up but there are some small differences:

1- You have 97.1 The River. Owned by COX, this station started off very much like 100.7 the river in the RDU but now 97.1 has skewed more rock. Your not going to hear Carly Simons or Orleans. Go to their site and view their playlist. The river is the number one rock style station in Atlanta beating out AAA, Alternative, Active and Mainstream rock stations. Understand 97.1 is not a classic rock stations as they tend to limit their playlist to only hits. Yes, you will hear some of the harder bands of the 70's but they will be limited to just hits and of course, 97.1 will play the hell out of Cat Stevens and Simon and Garfunkel which separates the station from classic rockers.

2- 106.7- It's dubbed as Atlanta's Greatest Hits. Their considered classic hits but they tend to be less rock and more pop, R&B and some disco. They also dig back to the early and mid 60's at times. This station is not doing well at all because they are trying to mix two different generations and it's just not working.

WBCY called itself "Charlotte's Best Rock" and they played Carly Simon. Not sure about Orleans but I wouldn't be surprised.

I like WKIX-AM.

When WBCY introduced the slogan "Charlotte's Best Rock" in 1978, they played Carly Simon and Orleans. After late 1980 - early 1981 as "Charlotte's Best Rock"s, WBCY also played a few songs by country artists Ronnie Milsap, Terri Gibbs, Johnny Lee, and Kenny Rogers, if I recall correctly.

No, Raleigh is still a wasteland.
 
Pumped Up Kids would be played on Alternative stations and not active rock stations. Which would do better in this market? Active or Alternative rock.

Raleigh has the base for an Alternative and a well programmed AAA. Clear Channel is incompetent at providing this but Curtis could do it if he tried. This new format on 96.1 is a shot in the dark that didn't even come close.
 
Radio 96.1 is clearly not a Triple A. But, their ratings have really spiked upward in the last monthly.
Cume is up in a big way. Proves that mass appeal, familiar music works. It's still early, but I think it's got legs.
