100.7 The River Goes Christmas

It's not as surprising as it otherwise could be. Over the past couple months that station has toned it down to the point that it's borderline gold-based AC.

What format could they go to?

They went christmas before 99.5 and 101.5 did, that sounds like a format change on the first of the year to me. Maybe they go full on AC? What format holes are in this market? Or maybe it's just a crazy way for them to get bigger ratings before the regulars go christmas probably next friday. Either way it will be interesting in the coming months, but usually when a station goes christmas before Thanksgiving it usually spells format change.

I just can't see Clear Channel going to a format they already tried and ditched (Sunny 93.9). Plus, AC is in decline nationwide.

The Triangle REALLY needs a decent Triple A, but CC is not capable of delivering that.

I can't see "100.7 The River" changing, i heard them not long ago, and don't sound bad as a "classic hits" station, it would be nice if "Oldies 100.7" would return.

CC just shut down one of its few AAAs, WRNX 100.9 in Amherst (Springfield) Mass., and made it a full-time simulcast of WPKX 97.9 Springfield, which is in the process of moving its COL to Hartford. When that happens, 97.9 will flip to a new, undisclosed format, widely believed to be right-wing talk minus Limbaugh, who will stay on AM blowtorch WTIC despite its being a CBS station. How many AAAs does CC have now?

don't know much about triple-A's.
from my perspective, this looks like a daisy chain.
Charlotte to Greensboro to Raleigh to Wilmington.
same stuff.
who needs i-heart?
just scan when the signal fades.
it will be there somewhere.

Doesn't sound promising... last time CC-Raleigh had a station go all-Christmas was when they did away with country on 106.1 before Rush Limbaugh and his cronies took over and made it "Yuck Radio One-Oh-Sux-One"...

That's what 97.9 in Springfield is now, country. CC obviously doesn't want two country stations splitting the Springfield market north/south, especially with co-owned WWYZ Hartford a factor in the south, so something's got to change. I just don't know whether a Rush-less Rush Radio will cut it. There's no way Rush wants to leave a blowtorch for a peashooter, though, even if the peashooter is owned by his syndicator.

According to wikipedia "It is rumored that after Christmas the station will either go full blown Oldies or AC". Take it for what it's worth because we know how viable wikipedia is but could Oldies 100.7 make a comeback?

The River will be Oldies when donkeys fly! ;D It's not a viable, saleable format and that's the facts, Mam.

With 96ROCK being blown up, does that open up the River to a tweaking of the Rock format for a harder edge (i.e. the Buzz in GSO)?

Playing the same music, "without all the useless talk."
There's a lot of talk that's useful.
For example, instead of playing Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" a half hour ago, they could have spent that time discussing the future of high speed rail in Fuquay *but not Varina*.

Now that 96Rock is gone do you think 100.7 comes back after Christmas with an updated Rock format? Somebody needs to step up and fill the void that 96Rock left.

I think this would be the best idea, but is there a good chance (i.e. greater than 60% that CC Raleigh would do this) If so, would you say they'd throw on a syndicated morning show like Lex & Terry, or attempt to get Salt and Demetri after their non compete is up?

EDIT: I know if you go to Oldies1007.com it redirects to the River's website, but that isn't saying much, because 1061rdu.com roostercountry1061.com, and 1061rducountry.com also redirect to Rush Radio 1061's website.
