100.7 The River Goes Christmas

If 100.7 comes back as a newer rock station, do you think Blade has a home there? Is he even right for a new rock format?

Blade is a great guy, I have a lot of respect for him, but I don't see him doing new rock.

Plus I think he is banned from CC after what he did when RDU flipped. I would hope that if 100.7 goes Active Rock they get Salt & D. Plus I think it would not be Premium Choice. You don't think CC would put a station that sounds exactly like VBZ in a neighboring market do you? I think 100.7 will be mainstream like 96Rock was but hopefully more new rock. But this is all speculation should be interseting on December 26th.

I wonder if maybe they'll have Big Rig from 98rock/WXTB in middays if they still wanna go the PC route? I know he's tracks on a lot of stations for CC, mainly doing nights. If my memory serves me right, didn't he track on the old RDU as well?

Yes he did I think between 04-06. I think 100.7 should flip to whatever format they are going to do. Why wait until after Christmas?

For a while, this occurred to me today when the voiceover guy said "100.7 The River," but I think they should be 100.7 Over The River. That way they get the Christmas reference in, and they can use the same slogan for whatever they become next, after The River. Also, it fits because we are all over The River.

Maybe Alternative then?

I know CC has CHR's in neighboring markets (Raleigh, GSO, and Charlotte to name a few) and I can name one instance right off the bat, where CC had two modern rockers in neighboring markets, DC101/WWDC in Washington DC and 102.1 the X/WRXL in Richmond, VA. Another oddity, in San Antonio, two Clear Channel owned news/talkers in the same market. 1200 WOAI and 92.5 the Patriot KRPT. I'm still betting on an active rocker, but with live mornings and PM drive, and likely Big Rig middays, Sixx Sense and/or Loveline at night. Just my two cents.

EDIT: CC would have to make sure, personality wise, NOT to have it sound too much like WVBZ, so the whole Premiere Choice slate wouldn't be the best idea, seeing as once you hit the outskirts of Raleigh and go towards Durham & Chapel Hill, you can usually pick WVBZ up quite well. As for Salt and D, personally, I'd love the idea, but I don't know if CC Raleigh would have it in their budget to pay three big name morning shows (the Showgram, Morning Rush, and Salt and D if they end up coming)

It seems to me that Clear would flip 93.9 before 100.7 - Kiss has so much overlap with G105!

I still wonder if 100.7 could come back after the Holidays with an 'adjusted' classic hits format that sounds more like KLOU, WODC, WWSW, WMJI, etc. They had been headed in that direction.

If they didn't have Kiss in the stable, I'd suggest Hot AC.

Maybe they are just playing Christmas music for the enjoyment of their audience?. On January 2, 2012, they may just return to their same format.

I saw an email put out by station management saying some of their competitors have started this rumor, but that they will be the same River after Christmas. Case closed.

And when Clear Channel says something, you can take it to the bank ::)

I still think something MIGHT happen, but a statement from CC doesn't mean shit to me. I'll wait until 1/1/2012 to see if this happens. (giving an extra week of leeway)

You don't even need the extra week. If they do it the way most stations do and stop the Christmas music at 6pm Christmas day, you are 6 hours to the good. Otherwise, when the classic hits start back up at 12:01am on 12/26 you know it's still the River.

Seriously people, CC can barely afford to keep the lights on yet the two jocks left on 100.7 still have a job. Kitty is still playing Jazz on Sunday mornings. If they're going Active Rock I doubt Kitty Kinnin of all people will be retained.

Quickie Quiz: When was the last time CC Raleigh made a format change that was a big hit with listeners and advertisers?

Hint: G105 and WRDU were very successful before CC bought them

^ So was Oldies 100.7

For that matter so was Sunny 93.9

But I have to say, they seem to have hit one out of their tiny little league park with Rush Radio. It has put a death knell on 680 and is not doing shabby at all.

you are right, and that is sad. Of course, when it comes to talk radio these days; Rush, Hannity, etc are the top fare. However, WPTF STILL reigns in news coverage and they are mostly live and local. I wish 680 could make a comeback, but that will be difficult for them. Such a shame that corporate radio (big corporate radio) had come in and crushed a local institution, like WPTF AM 680. I just wonder, with the success of WUNC (The TOP talk station in RDU) Public Radio, how 680 would do if they added Randi Rhodes and Alan Combes...some of the 'progressive' talkers. WCHL has done something similar to that. That may be a dumh idea, but with the success of NPR, it just may work for them. They'd never beat Rush Radio, but they may pick up some more viable numbers, by providing a different voice in talk radio.

Nah, CC already butchered that format [the original River]...
