101.5 Jamz Is On the Air

You gotta figure with Power on a weak stick - a Full coverage signal should put Jamz in the drivers seat billing-wise. Maybe not at jump - but the Nat'l $$$ has to be WAYYYY too appealing for CBS to leave out there. I say bring it on - change to the market is good - competition - remember that? Remember when stations & their air talent actually got to compete?!?!? Interesting to see what the air staff is going to look like.

Jamz sounds like it's going after Kiss more than Power right now, if this keeps up Power will probably be fine. The station sound like Kiss did three years ago before they added all the pop.

IMO they didn't really sound pop until last fall.

Yeah, your right they definately started sounded a lot more pop last year, I guess I was refering to the time when they dropped the "todays' hottest music slogan" and started using "your number one hit music station". The music changed just slightly back then and the presentation didn't sound as hip-hop.

A few random thoughts...

First up, if the reaction here means anything, this is one of the biggest format launches in Phoenix. I started adding up the "views" of the threads related to Free FM's demise/Jamz' debut, and stopped counting after ten thousand. Add to that the 8 pages of comments (both good and bad) on azcentral.com, and it's clear that this is the most talked-about format flip in a very long time. You might call it "weak," but you took the time to log on here and call it weak, right? That means you were listening, and so were a lot of other people.

Next up, I was flipping between Jamz/Kiss/Power sitting on the I-10 on my way home today, and my first impression is that Jamz wins the signal processing battle hands down. I don't know if they tweaked it just for this station, or if its just because that signal is a blowtorch, but it sounded really, really good. Power is flat and a bit distorted (with some occasional static), and Kiss is tinny compared to Jamz.

The imaging is tight...simple and straightforward...which is exactly what you need when you're launching a new product.

The next big questions for CBS (and for Bruce St. James) are: Who's the airstaff? How will they promote it? And how will they sell it?

On top of that...

KOOL and Power are currently in the same building.

But if I'm not mistaken, KOOL and Jamz are swapping offices.

Once this move happens, Power and Jamz will be separated by two floors...

Power's address:

4745 N 7th Street Suite 410
Phoenix, AZ 85014

KOOL's current address / future Jamz address:

4745 North 7th Street, Suite 210
Phoenix, AZ 85014

And, interestingly, MOViN' (which presumably shares at least some audience with both Power and Jamz) is right there as well:

4747 N. 7th Street - Suite 424
Phoenix, AZ 85014
