101.5 The Point Flipping To Hot 101.5?

A little insight birdie told me that this might happen over 4th Of July weekend.
101.5 The Point flipping to Hot 101.5?
I kind of liked their 90's selections recently.
I can pick up their signal pretty nice here in Orlando.

Discuss.

Oh, I get it - an "insight birdie." ;D

The previously registered domain hot1015tampabay.com has apparently been moved to Cox's server.

Prediction: Somehow, some way, Rick Dees will be involved with this new "Hot" station.

Could they be resurrecting a modified "Jo-101.5"?

Interesting to note that this coincides with 97X's PD Shark moving off air and the lineup shuffle over on that station. Could Cox actually be making format adjustments in Tampa Bay? Someone probably decided it was time for another "NEW" station!! Honestly.... not sure how an urban skewed station fits into the cluster... but I think FLZ and Wild are ripe for some competition. Can you win a CHR war without investing in personalities? Not sure on that one.

How about a flip with 97.1 and 101.5?

While we're all speculating...

I wouldn't be surprised if 101.5 went more of the "Star 95.7" route. Take a piece from the suddenly large Mix 100.7 numbers and force Play 98.7 to go more towards true CHR (which they likely were going to anyways... it's just not working). 101.5 gets the younger female demo, Magic 94.9 holds on to the older demo. You put the squeeze on Mix and FLZ while marginalizing Play. Shark was a Hot AC PD before, and the early days of 97X had them going up against Star and 98 Rock rather well despite the smaller stick.

I find it hard to believe they'd shift one successful station (97X) to another frequency without much promotion. Of course they could make that announcement on Friday and then simulcast for a bit before launching something new on 97.1. ...But I just don't see "X" moving. I'm of the opinion if you want to spend money on re-branding a frequency, don't make matters worse by having to spend twice as much re-branding two. That is unless the payoff justifies it.

After re-thinking about what I posted earlier, Cox does run a successful CHR in Jacksonville with WAPE. However, I do realize that's the heritage CHR in Jax just like FLZ is here. But as far as strategy goes, they've got an Eagle, an "X", and a classic rocker there just like they do here. So maybe the thinking is hit music is now a better fit on 101.5 leaving current Point listeners to Magic, Mix, and Play. The current Point shares audience with too many other stations. I'm kind of leaning towards believing this might just happen now. And you know... Nancy Alexander is available. LOL... ok, not something I wanna see but that should start some discussion.

A flip to CHR would fill a gap in Cox's Tampa Bay demos (younger female), but taking on 'FLZ directly would be a tall order. A longshot might be Rhythmic Hot AC (think Ft. Myers Z100).

Pretty crowded field, though, with the well established FLZ & Wild, Play (slowly gaining a following), plus Mix and The Beat on the fringes.

Whatever it is...it will be "new".

I'd love to see a Rhythmic 90s station pop up here in town, playing all the top rhythmic hits of the 90s (TLC, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson). With such a high Black and Hispanic populace here in Tampa, I'm surprised a Rhythmic 90s (rhythmic AC) station hasn't already popped up in this area (think KHJZ out of Honolulu). With all the 80s stations popping up in the early 2000s, isn't the next logical step some type of 90s format?

Then again with a station called "Hot 101.5", Cox may be leaning Rhythmic CHR but who knows, yet...

101.5 is a pretty big signal to be a good CHR contender.
Although I'd hate to see The Point go away, I hope what might replace it will be great.

I'm wondering why nobody else has even matched what 93.9 Jamz in Honolulu is doing.
It would be great to have something like that here in Florida.
Have a full-time "Rewind on 93.3FLZ", but without ADD mixes.

Guess 101.5 will be deleted from my presets. I must admit I liked the music they played. Unless of course 97X eventually occupies the frequency. I had The Point on there because it was the closest thing to 80s and 90s variety hits out there. I guess WOCL 105.9 will be my 80's station from now on. (I like hearing Spyder Harrision with my music.) The signal is much too weak otherwise to continue listening.

The "Hot" Cox stations, that I know of except Miami, are Top 40. I would love to see 97X go to X101-5.
Cox's HOT in Richmond is a Rhythmic...

See ya.... and just like that The Point is GONE. 10AM.

One would have thought they'd have changed the RDS, first. I guess nobody cares about technologies outside traditional analogue.

Yes, it is still showing "The Point".

I noticed the HD was on and off the last few days. HD2 "Star" has also been mysteriously been off and on the last few days as well. Wonder if the 80's and 90's will end up on HD2 or if they'll just say screw it. Sounds like they're really calling out FLZ. What about Wild? Seems to me the power play move is to just call out EVERYONE. Take a Power Pig attitude. You've got nothing to lose in this battle. Seriously. GO ALL IN.
