I've been out of town for about 10 days, which is why I did not report this earlier. First of all, 1010 AM is going back to the sports format. The week before last, Scott Brantly was in to talk to Lou and the programming guys. As he left, I also left to go to a meeting. I heard him on the phone tell someone that he had just discussed going on the air on 1010. The kicker is that he mentioned that he thinks that 1470 may also want him, but all things being equal, he'd rather go with CBS. So it's looking like Bruce Madorri of 1470 and CBS will be, or are, in a bidding war of sorts for Brantly's services. Except for one thing: someone fairly high up in the company who is outside the programming division confirmed that he heard that we definitely have an interest, and he then stated that if CBS wants him, there is no way that we will let 1470 get Brantly. He ended by saying that, in all likelihood, 1470's interest will be a waste of time and a heartbreaker for them, and will merely raise the price that CBS ends up paying. I agree, there is no way that Lou and CBS could be outbid by Madorri and 1470, which would be TOTALLY HUMILIATING to CBS. If what I heard was true, and I have no reason to believe othewise, Brantly will be on 1010 no matter what 1470 does. If he ends up on 1470, Lou will look like a fool to the broadcast world, and 1010 will have an embarrassing start to its sports programming. Stay tuned.
