1010, 1470 IN BIDDING WAR FOR BRANTLY?

I've been listening to Bobby Fenton, and I think he is very good. He is knowledgeable, plus he smoothly handles his co-hosting duties. You need to give him a chance.

Interesting going back and reading old posts from earlier in the year. Some people are "in-the-know" and others are smokin' wacky weed & making stuff up.

It is interesting to look back at this thread and now contemplate where we are. Al Keck and The Chicks over on 1010.... J.P. Peterson and Brantley and Fenton on 1470... A lot of trees falling in the forest that aren't neccesarily making any sounds.

As long as there are no real AM signals available, we will be stuck with these low budget attempts at the format. Bring in some tired old names that can sell a few remotes, get the well paid TV guys and offer them a nice little second income (not enough to support a full time medium market air talent) for a gig that is an afterthought to them and see what happens.

WDAE will continue to dominate, that was never in question. However, they are starting to age. They will continue to thrive in the face of no competition. I would love to hear what would happen if someone had a signal to work with a took a fresh, real swing at the format. Rome's appeal has shrunk considerably, Sileo is weak, Ian and Ron are mediocre at best. Deumig is as strong as ever, but how much longer does that last? However, with nothing to compete against, and right now there is nothing. the song remains the same.

As someone who has both programmed for a sports radio station (for over 10 years) as well as host a daily show at one time (2 years). I feel the need to respond to the last post. I listen to both 620 and 1470 (can't hear 1010 in Sarasota). 1470 is scratchy at times, but alright.

And I will say this. I agree the signal is an issue. But I do not think, 1470 is being run low budget. NOT AT ALL. In fact quite to the contrary.........

1470 does a very, very nice job with their product. I really think JP, does a great job. He is not just a TV head, he does give hard opinions and I think, over time... will get better and better. I think Fenton with JP and with his updates (he's alot better than Whitney, my god) is good.... and Brantley is Brantely. I think, Bobby is a nice complment on that show as well....

1470 does a nice job with LOCAL Sportcenters and with LOCAL traffic in their local AND Syndicated shows.... And they are not jumbled and stumbled upon.... And isn't that what every body bitches about on this board. LOCAL, LOCAL, LOCAL..... JP, Brantey and Fenton are solid... and all are more than talented enought to work on 620...

I will say this... If the signal was better, I think 1470 would BEAT 620, when DAE runs Sileo and Rome.

Dan Patrick is hard to beat, in Sports Radio, for syndicated talk, as well.... A coup for 1470....

And Duemig is Duemig, I like him and that's a win for 620.... But iI will also say this..... Way to too many spots and the show it seems is always taking a break. I know they can take 15 minutes in spots on that format (w/ CC less is more), and it seems like they do.. With all the spots, promos, traffic and stumbling sports attacks.. Some days it's a hard listen.

Just my two cents....

I appreciate your assessment. I just find Brantley very, very boring and way too timid to ever rock the boat on the local scene. I know some people appreciate, but not me.

As for J.P.. If he spent his full time working on the show, it would improve. He is opinionated and able to speak his mind, but he is going off the cuff a lot. The late Chris Thomas' show improved by leaps and bounds after his television career ended.
