Any word if a station is coming in. I noticed that 102.1 FM is in stereo but nothing but dead air. Sometimes you hear people talking for breif momments. (No I'm not crazy ::) )

Its one of several LPFM's that share the facilities they are WCRS, WCRZ, AND WCRX there will also be WCRG from Groveport using the same 102.1

I heard them on 98.3, very low audio, poor audio, getting it from an FM tuner I suspect. I've also heard times when 98.3 was on but 102.1 wasn't and you could hear white noise with other stations on 102.1, Lima I think.

It reminded me of the 1974 cable days when WCMH would sign off and on Warner you could hear KMOX 4 St. Louis--those were interesting times.

I heard the 98.3 signal from near the channel 10 tower midday last week. I sometimes get the 102.1 on 670 nr the airport, but as I get close to 161 I get mostly T102 Lima bleed-in. Anyone have a schedule for any of these 102.1 LPs? I assume 98.3 is a translator?

The 98.3 translator has been on the air for the last few months.

WCRX, 102.1 FM, the voice of Bexley Public Radio Foundation, is currently on air from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. Mon. through Fri., rebroadcasting simultaneously on 98.3 FM.

Mr. KURT WEILAND, treasurer of the Bexley Public Radio Foundation, wrote the following interesting
article on WCRX-LP, 102.1 FM and new developments on the LPFM front.
He mentions that WCRX-LP is one of only three LPFM stations licensed in a top 50 market.
The other two being the LPFM stations sharing time with WCRX-LP radio on 102.1 FM.

Support Low Power FM stations

Bexley News

"There are two important radio-broadcast issues being considered by the federal government. Through a series of public hearings across the nation, Congress and the Federal Communications Commission are looking at the concentration of radio and television ownership."

The Other Paper wrote the following article on Low Power stations WCRS-LP and WCRX-LP FM, on 102.1 FM
in Columbus, Ohio. Since they signed on the air about a year ago, I've noticed the signal is much stronger
on 102.1 FM. I'm able to pick up 102.1 FM in the German Village area of Columbus, Ohio, about ten miles away
from their tower near Easton Mall. It's signal strength pretty weak there but still readable.

Renegade Radio

Fed up with Columbus’s not-too-progressive radio choices, a group of wannabe broadcasters struggled for seven years to start up a station where liberal talk would rule. Now you can finally hear it—provided you’re in the right place.

The current SHORT NORTH GAZETTE issue has this long and interesting article on WCRS-LP FM radio in Columbus.

Columbus Community Radio Takes Off in '08
WCRS brings Democracy Now! and local voices to the airwaves
January 2008
by Jennifer Hambrick

Eugene Beer, chief engineer for WCRS, first heard the Pacifica program Democracy Now!
in 2000 while in Florida and was blown away by the information that was coming out.
Columbus radio listeners who want to hear more independent programming on local airwaves will have their chance this month.

WCRS, a community radio station broadcast on 102.1 and 98.3 FM, has since last May offered Democracy Now! and other nationally syndicated programs broadcast through the Pacifica Radio network, and has this month expanded its broadcast hours and schedule of locally produced programs.

I have nothing against what WCRS/WCRX are doing but they call this community radio yet their running syndicated content just like the other stations do..

Running programs from Pacifica is not local community radio. It makes them no different than WCBE and WOSU running NPR content, its just a different opinion.

Best wishes to them, hopefully they are able to succeed in what they want to do. Running an FM station is not cheap.

Radio Free Columbus
By Chris DeVille

"Zach Henkel is all about living simply. He rides his bike everywhere and lives on $866 a month as an AmeriCorps VISTA. So it makes sense that his one-year Volunteers in Service to America stint would be with local sustainable-living group Simply Living, where he works as one of more than 50 volunteers for the group's new community radio station, WCRS."

Well it is better than the failing conservite talk format. It is community radio station. Here is list of local shows:

Conscious Voices with Cynthia Rossi
Your Music by Evan Davis
The Beat Oracle by Michael Beam and Joseph DeMatteo
pat radio by Pat Leonard
Turn Me On by Jesse Barr
Cranksters by Zach Henkle

Saturdays
Musicologie

Sundays
Jim Maneri Show

Plus there is two local Somail shows during the week as well.

Since this is LPFM the coverage isn't great. 102.1 broadcast at 54 watts and its translator at 98.3 broadcast at 154 watts. There are tips to tune into the station on the station website www.wcrsfm.org. When I was at Trader Joe's yesterday the station comes in clear. I also do the programming for the station Mondays and Fridays. Well the station uses Shoutcast and Winamp to broadcast 3PM-8PM. Ture they air Dem Now and Free Speech Radio News, that is ther flagship shows. There some times a local guy that does music for a half hour from time to time. It is bad that most people doesn't understand local radio since they get there talking points from hypocritical conservites. Please posters of Radio Info learn how to use your brain, and think for yourselves for a change.

Simply Living's WCRS-LP now has extended hours as part of its time shared agreement. Groveport Madison
School's WCRG-LP and the Community Refugee and Immigration Services WCRC-LP entered into an agreement with Simply Livings WCRS-LP. WCRC-LP and WCRG_LP aren't going to build their stations and agreed to give their
time to WCRS-LP. The FCC approved this agreement last week. So NOW there are only two stations sharing
time on 102.1 FM instead of four. Those are WCRS-LP and WCRX-LP. WCRX-LP is Bexley Public Radio but
they ONLY have ten hours a week on the frequency.

I'm the special guest tonight on WCRS' "Pat Radio" show at 6:00, so I invite anyone who wants to have some fun for an hour to tune in! 98.3 or 102.1, and if neither one of those works very well for you then just go to www.patradio.org/blogs/index.php?frontpage, and in the chart near the top of that page click "Pat Radio Podcasts - Click To Start", and then right below that heading click "1. #128 - The Offense Fanzine", which should be highlighted in white. Enjoy!

How did it go? Is there a podcast available for those of us who unfortunately missed it? Would like to hear what you are up to lately; I had "dad duty" last night.

Thanks,

Bummer, Groveport's my alma mater. It's too bad they couldn't make radio a priority for the students.

There is a podcast that can be heard at any time of the day or night by following the instructions in my previous post. Just bring up host Pat Leonard's website, make a couple of clicks, and you'll be in business.
Thanks for your interest, John; I think it went quite well. In fact, I've listened to the thing three times myself and can't wait to hear it again!
