102.5 goes Hot AC(ish)

The 102.5 signal is what it is and Cromwell would do anything (except ditch the digital) to improve it, but like they can't go to 200,000 watty things. It's the FCC's, fault I tell ya...

The issue is their signal is a rimshot, out on a tower in Cheetam County. They we're using that translator on 102.1 (which I believe is in the WSMV tower) to re-broadcast The Party, but dropped that and 102.1 is now going their own way. They should either bring The Party back on that translator, or move their own antenna closer to down (which means they'd have to drop power most likely)

102.5 has killer overall signal coverage, however it's horrible where it counts - Nashville, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro, Gallatin, etc. 102.1 doesn't have enough wattage to penetrate most offices, unless their in the Charlotte pike area. I can see the tower from the front of my building near the fairgrounds and have better luck pulling in 95.1 out of bowling green than 102.1. 102.5 is much stronger than most Nashville stations in Wayne, Lawrence, Humphreys, and anywhere toward Waverly, Dover and the Tennessee river and up toward Paducah. Would it be worth them to move to the north nashville antenna farm? I mean 92Q only has 3kW and is listenable in most offices and pulls great numbers. I'd imagine if they kept power under 25kW they'd still have great coverage and wouldn't interfere too much with 102.5 that's blasting off the plateau in Crossville. We don't have any class B's around here do we? Line of sight is the issue. Fair signal for 100 mile radius, but not many areas with strong signal. I'd think with a signal between 92.1 and 97.1's strength they could pull good numbers with the new awesome format.

I live in south Cheatham (specifically in their COL, Pegram), and I can tell you that, signal-wise, y'all aren't missing anything. Their signal is constantly breaking up, the same way that 97.1's signal was cutting out a few weeks ago, to the point that it is almost unlistenable.

That one is really aimed at Clarksville/Ft. Campbell anyway, and is too far from us to be even considered a "rimshot." However, I can receive them well from my home here just west of Nashville.

V-102.5 was our last hot AC (2005-2008) and their switch back to The Party is the reason why we haven't had a hot AC here.

I know Firepoint. I lived in Clarksville for 5 Years. (My mom was stationed at Fort Campbell.) Never lived in Nashville however. I was saying since WPRT switched back to CHR Nashville has been without a proper City-Grade Hot AC. Unless you are lucky enough (Nashvilles Western Suburbs.) to pick up Q108. WCVQ was my favorite station the entire time I lived in the area. I do know however that 5-Star Radio/ Saga of Tuckassee NEVER marketed Q108 as a Nashville station. Or never intends to move the signal closer to Nashville.

When I lived there was back when 102.5 was WQZQ. (Its 1st run at CHR.) What I've noticed is that 102.5 actually had a stronger signal over Clarksville than Nashville. Just look on Radio-Loctor and the V-Soft signal utility.

What is your definition of rimshot anyways.

Whatever chance Q-108 had as a really remote rimshot seems to have diminished in the Southern part of Nashville (Brentwood/Franklin Road area) gradually over the past year. Used to come in fine in the car, now it is nearly gone. I must admit that Q-108 was a decent station for many years, but when I do get a chance to listen in other parts of the city, it's not sounding as good musically. Still, Q-108 and this weeks version of The Party (while much improved) are still somewhat apart in their playlists. Time will tell, but I for one am glad to have The Party playing the majority of the music on there. Selfishly speaking, much improved...

Here in Florida I still listen to the "Q" online. Great station but not as good as a few years ago. I must say I like the local "Ryan and Gretchen" morning show. ( When I lived in Clarksvile the show on Gretchen Cordy and Jack Indigo.) The station also used to play a lot of good music. Had a well-rounded playlist from the 80's through today.

Interesting note I used to be able to go down I-24 and Q-108 wouln't die out until a few miles south of the Murfreesboro Exits. So I know ahat you mean.

BTW, Whatever happened to Jack Indigo. He spoke to my class when I was in 5th Grade.

I believe the answer to your question lies within your own message. Q-108 has never been marketed as a Nashville station, thus cannot really be considered a "rimshot." I lived in Clarksville for nine months myself, back in the early '90s, and listened to Q-108 while living there. I later moved back to Nashville, and lived on Murfreesboro Road, and later, Harding Place, in the mid-to-late '90s, and couldn't pick up Q-108 from down there. It wasn't until I moved to Pegram in 2005 that I rediscovered Q-108. I can pick them up from here, and usually quite nicely.

On my way back from my girlfriend's parents' place in Scottsville, KY just past noon today, I punched up 102.5 and was surprised to hear "Stayin' Alive" by The Beegees... I've heard Bruno Mars on there twice in the past 2 1/2 hours. It doesn't fit the traditional Variety Hits template, more like a Hot AC that plays some 80s tracks. "Somebody Told Me" by The Killers into "Talking In Your Sleep" by The Romantics into "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow was interesting to hear just now, though.

Your garden variety BOB-FM station goes by this same playbook, as well.

And changing the music without changing the name is also a handicap. Folks who might like the new music will be slow to learn it's there (since they do almost no outside promotion or marketing). Folks who like the old music don't understand why it's the same name, different station. And folks who decided they didn't like the music under the old name will be slow to give it another try.

Star 97 also did that, several times! But they at least put up billboards back then. 102.5's current handicap is that they are trying to be multi-generational (apparently). The other day they played "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats (1983), followed by "California Girls" by Katy Perry (2010), and then split the difference with "How Bizarre" by OMC (1997), all within a 10-minute period.

Here's The Party's problem...they wanted to be like The River, which plays "Funky Cold Medina" by Tone Loc once or twice per day, but they overdid it. In my opinion, The Party should follow the lead of our friend from Gallatin with his AM utilizing a very good satellite Hot AC format produced by "the artist formerly known as ABC Radio Networks". The Party should go back to the satellite format they used from "the artist formerly known as Jones Radio Networks". These satellite networks know how to plug in the "CHR Gold" at the right time.

Yeah, well now Einstein 2017 knows how we felt three years ago when they took V-102.5 away from us, and brought "the Party" back!

107.5 for "old" people? Maybe during Backtrax USA, if they even still carry that program.

What they should do is play the "older" music during the daytime (aren't they already doing that during lunch hour?) and play the teenybopper stuff during afternoon drive and evening times.

I was a kid once (back in the '70s and '80s) and the station in the town where I grew up played '50s and '60s oldies. And I loved it!

My first thought is that the 12-18 year-old audience didn't have enough cash to support the advertisers.
