Cox is trying to do to 98Rock what they did to Thunder, and it will work... to a point. Their new imaging is ridiculous though. They keep running promos claiming that they've drastically changed their playlist, then as a sample of their "new playlist" they sample Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, and a Smashing Pumpkins song... two songs that were already in heavy rotation on their "old playlist"... who's idea was it to let "Slater" do all of the new imaging? omg this station went from bad to worse... I'd love to see 98Rock open up their playlist, or at least alter their playlist a bit, but that would be too logical...

Problem is Adam you can't tell what you're reading most of the time it would seem. At least in this thread anyway. MsMusicRadio does spew sarcasim ALL THE TIME..and honestly that new voice guys DOES sound like Slater....Take your meds and think before you type.

The woman on nights can go to 94.9 to replace Delilah who gets moved to overnights. This wil effectively drop WHPT and the Eagle in the PPM's helping Q105 go to number one! I'm never sarcastic about Q105 cause they sound like Sixties Top 40.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are 0 songs by KISS in the playlist ?....huh ? 1 song by def leppard that plays over and over....oh wait.....van halen is the same.....1 song that plays over and over.....no others played ?
only 1 song by Judas Priest......1 by the scorpions and one by bon jovi.......that's all I see in the top 100......and those with one song.....yep....plays over and over each day
what sense does it make to REMOVE the kiss songs ? (and maybe a couple others that already ''fit'' before) I understand pulling the older stuff....60's stuff........yet I still see a doors song.....and a rolling stones song.....not top songs, but still there

The change makes sense. "Classic Rock" is something that my generation relates to. My generation is now collecting social security and playing with grand children. Hendrix and those of that ilk were putting out music 40 or more years ago. Cow and Bubba certainly are not aiming at the folks who went to Woodstock and are devoutees of "Classic Rock". Their content and humor is aimed at a generation who didn't come into music appreciation until the 80's. Regarding "Kiss", This probably is open to other opinion, however, always thought of them as "The Monkees" of a different generation. They were the group that mothers took their kids to see in the beginning. Very commercial and put out very air-playable singles. One poster was curious as to why The Doors and Stones were played. The trick is, if you play older material, is not to sound dated and pick stuff that transcends time. It isn't uncommon while making format changes to purge your playlist and then build it back up with material that works for your listeners.

The word Retro is now being used to describe 20-25 years of music dating back from today. Classic originally was Cream, Beatles,Who,Stones etc. Then, half of that library was dropped and infused with 70's-80's guitar bands. Now, 30-55's have their version of classic.
So what is Classic? It's what you had playing on the radio, when you were knee deep in snaggle in the back seat of the ol sex wagon....it changes
Hell, Rock n Roll almost has a Chuck Berry connotation now...but in 1990, that phrase sat underneath the 98 Rock logo, with the word pure in front of it.
What you call it IS important, how you present it makes all the difference.
