102.7 WLYK Cape Vincent/Kingston after Citadel's Timeless

102.7 The Lake an Affiliate of Citadel's Timeless format that will End Feb 13. I wonder what will replace Timeless ??

The Lake is controlled by the Radio Group in Canada. Rogers didn't take over the lake but they use the same studio's and is owned by Border International Broadcasting, Inc.

I've never quite understood how The Lake operates as they do. I always think it's odd that Jack (in the morning) never does a "real ID" of the station. I thought that was illegal (in the eyes of the FCC) I wondered too why they don't sell ads in Watertown?

Can anyone on this board receive the over-the-air signal? When it was Timeless... did it differ at all from the internet stream? Did they REALLY only have 1 ad break per hour? Do they operate from a facility which houses other Kingston stations? --- kRock perhaps?? I just don't understand how this US/Canadian ownership thing is handled.

Anyway I hope the internet stream returns soon... whatever they're doing now. :-\

The over the air and internet stream where the same other the a 10 second delay on the stream
A radio station need's one legal ID per hour and ether calls or freq. and location every 15 min.
Jack has 2 legal ID per hour minimum. Did they REALLY only have 1 ad break per hour? NO 3 or 4 an Hr. and most of the time 1 to 4 ads per break. Only the morning was and is from Rogers studios in Kingston and I don't know if still using studios in Watertown at 199 Wealtha Ave
102.7 Cape Vincent went on air around 1990-91 as 102.7 WKGG to serve Kingston as a repeater for 103.1 WTOJ and had Kingston news on 102.7. Then around 1993 became Oldies 102.7 to compete with CFFX (Oldies 960) 102.7 WKGG failed and went silent. Around 1996 A Kingston Man GARRY MCCOLMAN " Big G " Now a D.J. on Kix 93.5 helped form BORDER INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING, INC. and was the V.P. and WBDR 102.7 BORDER went Live as a Hit Music Station to serve Kingston a few years added 106.7 WBDI as a Watertown Repeater where the BORDER is now serving Watertown. Around 2002 - 2004
96.3 CFMK changed from Country to (Joe FM) and 102.7 became Kix 102.7 Country thet moved to 93.5 fm and 102.7 became Timeless 102.7 The Lake. I wondered too why they don't sell ads in Watertown? Watertown for it's size has a lot of Radio stations and there is only so much ad moneys and by advertising in Watertown might affect $$ for some of the partners of BORDER INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING, INC.

Very interesting history!

Back to the ID though. Anytime I heard Jack in the a.m.... all he'd say is Lake 102.7 Then when his show finished at 9, he just went from his last song, to another one at 9, but there was no "WLYK" spoken ID. And I never heard him actually say "WLYK Cape Vincent/Kingston" at ANYtime.

As for the breaks, in a typical Timeless hour, they'd break for spots at :20 past, but carry music at the :35 break, then during ABC's 60 second national spot at :50 past, you'd hear a 4 min song online to cover the ABC national, and the 3 min song that followed the spot. So I wondered if THAT was what was heard "on-air" or whether it was the same as the stream. ??? So, given that scenario.. there was ONE local break per hour!

So what is 102.7 doing today??? (online stream is still OFFline).

I live about 80 km down the 401, but can't get their signal from the house (on a regular basis). They get squeezed out by Espace Musique on one side and WNCQ on the other.

Heading a little west in the car is another story. Other than Jack Thompson (of 1380 CKLC fame), the music is canned. Canadian commercials, American news and music feed. I never felt 'at home' with the station. :-\

And no doubt the obligatory Emergency Alert System tests for the American side -- not much use for Kingston listeners unless a tornado touches down in Jefferson County and heads for the border.

So roughly 40 miles east from Kingston (direction?) it fades. I could only listen online, but I never heard any U.S. news. The top o' the hour ABC news was always filled with a 3 min song. The format made ME feel at home since the Timeless feed was what I was used to listening to here in New York.

the stream seemed to always mach the same feed that was on the radio with a delay. When the stream returns will compere and see. I Will also ask next time I see someone from The Lake
102.7 is still doing timeless format with voice tracking after morning show
legal ID's are not enforced like they where. Jacks show didn't follow the timeless time clock so ads can be added at anytime. At night I can see only 1 break per hour. What time are you tuning in ?
Emergency Alert System is automated from the Transmitter site. I have not heard there weekly test but they must have one because it would need to be logged with the F.C.C.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but they still have the little drop down box at the top of their webpage which lists the last 100+ songs that they played. From looking at that list, it seems like nothing has changed yet, but there is always the possibility that the list may not be updated properly...

The List is current. Driving home around 7 they played Hitchin A Ride when I saw this post checked there website and it showed 7:02PM - Hitchin' A Ride - Vanity Fare. I turned on the radio and watched the website it's current :D

Well, the stream is back! ;D

It sounds a bit strange though. I caught this morn before Jack's show ended. As usual NO legal ID at 9 AM. Once the hour started there were pockets of dead-air. There was no on-air presence until later in the hour.

It sounds weird that they're still using the Timeless-based jingles and positioners. The music hasn't changed so I suppose ... why not! There was STILL only 1 ad break in the hour... at :20.

The 11 AM hour past with NO legal ID. And no news at Noon! A bit of a surprise.

Aside from that... it sounded like Timeless never left! :D

Ya, about 50 miles or so east of Kingston. I can get 'em right on the St. Lawrence River in Brockville, but once one heads north a bit, the signal gets squeezed out. My understanding is, that it's not a very powerful transmitter, 6000 watts or so.

As far as the music goes, I'm a big fan of the standards and beautiful music formats, something which has been missing from the local airwaves since the original CFMO flipped back in the early '90's. :( Having said that, 1480 WADR (1550 WUTQ) does throw a weak daytime signal my way...

Speaking of standards... could you get 1440 Oswego or 1200 Syracuse??? They simulcast w/Dial Global's "America's Best Music". Lots of Sinatra, Bennet, Mathis, Carpenters etc... :D

WSGO/WTLA isn't a very long-term solution - they're flipping to ESPN (along with their new FM translators) in a week or so.

Enjoyed this station on a one day round-trip from Syracuse to Kingston last summer. Wondered how they circumvented the Canadian content rules.

Because there not Canadian so Cancon dose not apply.

The stick is in Cape Vincent NY...kind of like 94.7 in Chateaugay NY that hits the West Island of Montreal.
The Cancon would be cool tho...more Joni and Gordon.;D Ann Murray not so much...

The guy whose on in afternoon's now... (voicetrack perhaps?) anyway.... he has a VERY similar style and delivery to what we heard from Scott Reese's (Timeless") replacement... Dave MacNamie (spelling?).
