102.9 Format Change

Why would they not VT? CC is big in syndication and voice-tracking. They're the Kings!!!

Well, according to my modulation monitor, the new "NOW" 102.9 must not have one.

The PPM panel is Southcentric thus I expect KNBQ to take a good chunk of listeners away from KQMV. Even if KNBQ takes away some from other Clear Channel properties such as 93.3 and 106.1, the end result will be more bodies towards the CC cluster. Sell the combo, Man!

I was always surprised by KJR's decision to simulacast on KNBQ and never advocated that position. The reason was that it is a narrow format (Sports) for such a large signal serving Centralia and throughout the South end to Portland. A broader format is what is needed in that area, and CHR fits the bill.

I wonder if they should dump The Brew format and replace it with the Sports Radio simulcast as I originally envisioned. Ultimately, I think it is a calculation that must be made. Would CC make more money with this scenario, or rather would keeping the Brew be better, even as a steady .7 rating.

I guess I'd like to know if the sales dept can sell The Brew better than having a Sports Radio format on that Eatonville facility.

What do you think?

Over the last couple of years, I have formed the opinion that what CC should do is get KDUX to move to say 103.3, have KKCW move to 103.5, then move 104.9 up to Capital Peak to diclex into the 102.9 and soon 96.1 facility, then they can see how The Brew does and decide what to do with it. It has no chance for anything other than a 0.7 on that signal the way it is.

It seems to me, more and more stations are relocating to capital peak.. Would anyone care to explain why capital peak has advantages over south mountain? For the longest time I thought South Mountain and Gold Mountain where the same exact thing, but apparently I was mistaking.

I also happened to notice on radio locator that KANY 93.7 Aberdeen has a construction permit to operate from South Mountain (apparently). Wouldn't that interfere with CJJR 93.7 from Mount Seymour in Vancouver?

To answer your second question, No.

I don't think KKCW would be too thrilled about dropping to a lower class and you'd still have to move KFIS to 104.3, among other things.

Sure, that upsets us radio geeks...but then again, we're not paying the bills!

We may be radio geeks/listeners, but they're not our parents.....

102.9 has a LOT going against it. Heavy competition from it's own and other stations, a less than stellar signal and a bland generic, heard-one-you-heard-'em-all syndicated format. How this fits in an age where you can hear any one of their core artists on other stations (and instantly via mobile streaming) is beyond me.

They could have flipped to Smooth Jazz and found a more eager audience......

well there is an am smooth jazz station but with a very very very weak signal. its 1560 am but it was sad to make kwjz the only smooth jazz station become a top 40 or hot ac type station. the only reason they changed was cause of the demographic they wanted to reach for their commercials and the fact that they weren't playing just smooth jazz but some stuff like phil collins and nora jones which doesn't really fit the smooth jazz category at all. so they decided to change to hot ac and top 40 justin beiber type junk that they think we "need" to listen to the most. bring back smooth jazz permenently
