102 Jamz leaning CHR?

Power's signal is poor, 102 Jamz has always has a great stick and covers Orlando and Daytona very well. I like all radio, just don't care for poor signals.

Wish all signals could cover sizable areas with a decent signal. Unfortunately WPYO can not upgrade, considering it is shoehorned with WXCV 95.3 out towards the Ocala area. Both signals actually overlap west of Leesburg.

You'd not get WPOI or WMTX clear from The Villages like 102-Jamz.

Believe it or not my car radio will automatically scan to both Mix 100.7 and Hot 101.5 in The Villages. No, the signal is not as good as 102-Jamz. I can still however pick up a clear signal if I'm sitting in a parking lot and not driving. Which is where I was at.

I sometimes can even get both stations while driving. Giving I'd get some fading issues and sometimes moderate interference from other stations. Back when WPOI was The Point and I had a different car radio I could pick it up and alright signal throughout much of The Villages, Wildwood and Lady Lake area. Givin I didn't mind the signal imperfections of listening to a station 75 miles away.

When out in The Villages it was never a sure bet I could up Tampa stations. However my car radio will at least scan to them. Sometimes I have been able to pick up OK signals from them. Given I did not mind putting up with a bit of hissing and fading. (Car radios only let you scan to stations with moderate the strong signals, If for example 98.5 WKTK was too weak my radio won't let me flip to 98.5.)

Looking at the playlist on 102's website I also saw Grenade by Bruno Mars. Which I believe would be considered a recurrent that was once on CHR.

Speaking about Power 95.3 a friend of mine was driving to Orlando and had her radio on Citrus 95.3. She was wondering why the radio station all of a sudden switched to Hip Hop as soon as she turned on the Turnpike in Wildwood. This is before I got into radio and could answer that question for her. I just told you there was a 95.3 station towards Orlando that played Hip Hop. She actually thought her radio was broken or all of a sudden flipped stations.

Seems weird how the FCC allows some stations on the same frequency to be so close together that contours actually overlap.

Not only weird, but downright annoying. IMHO, this is sheer greed, to clutter up the FM dial with more stations on the same frequencies with COL's less than 100 miles apart. i know we have choices but is it really vital that the smaller markets cover every genre/format possible. One example is Gainesville/Ocala. 5, 10, 15 years ago you had 3-5 good stations, great signals and viable formats. Now there must be 20 stations littering the dial.

Capitalism at work here........

right, that's what i was talkin 'bout. not clear as in able to pick it up in full stereo while moving.
and when trop comes in Jacks hammers tampa lots of times.
you cann pick up a lot of different things while in a sweet spot of a parking lot.
This is why FM roophtop antenna's rule, as you can null to find the sweet spot.

Still waiting to hear Fall Out Boy and All American Rejects............ ;)

How about....

FUN. We Are Young f/Janelle Monae - 65 spins
GOTYE Somebody That I Used To Know - 43 spins

102 Jamz is now just like most of the CBS CHR stations (rhythmic leaning with a few non-rhythmic hits thrown in). The playlist mirrors 92.3 New York, 97.1 Los Angeles, 95.7 Houston, and many more, including 101.5 Jamz in Phoenix. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the ratings over the next few months.

Well, since we now have 4 PPM books under this now full rhythmic WJHM, and the results are:

WJHM-FM 3.6 377,700 3.3 357,900 3.4 346,600

It looks like their ratings were the same as before (and someways worse) and they still haven't cracked the top 10 overall 6+. Honestly, at best WJHM has only seen its ratings go up about 0.2 shares over the past 4 months meanwhile competition WXXL still has twice the shares and nearly twice the cume. As a matter fact, WPYO is still beating them by 2-whole shares and larger cume overall as well.

CBS has screwed up this station. WJHM might have a huge signal, but has whack musical programming that won't gain traction with any particular audience. They might want to reconsider going back towards an urban-lean, seriously. At least the market's growing black audience are more reliable and would provide a TSL that would translate into higher numbers.

If 102 Jamz skews Old School Hip Hop like their "Back In The Day Buffet" & include 80's Hip Hop, I'd actually listen.
It'll grab that target audience like no one else in this market will, and then some, & give Orlando something else to listen to instead of the same tired new stuff that plays on other stations.

I think CBS has positioned WJHM in a no-win category because it chasing after an unattainable opponent, WXXL, and completely losing to WPYO and WCFB. WJHM made sense as an urban-leaning rhythmic station, but they don't even have a clue who they are now...

Just rode into Orlando over the weekend. 102 Jamz jams no more. It's pathetic.

To think this was a heritage #1 station at one time whether they played a straight rhythmic CHR playing freestyle dance and hip-hop in the early 90s with a sound similar to Q 102 Philadelphia, Power 106 in LA and Power 96 in Miami.

Then they transitioned successfully to the urban-leaning rhythmic CHR that was successful for years. I think the veteran management that remained after CBS picked the station is no longer there to keep 102 Jamz' identity. WPYO has won the war by default.

CBS should sell this station off to a local owner that will resurrect the heritage format. Otherwise, do the listeners a huge service and change the name of the station. Don't disgrace what listeners like me have associated with 102 Jamz for the last 20 years. A second CHR will not work in Orlando, leave that to WXXL.

Corporate Radio Sucks!!!!

Corp. radio sucks indeed. I don't WANT to listen to a station in Orlando that sounds like a station in LA or New York or anywhere else.... When will these cretins learn?

Amen to that, sir! It is truly pathetic seeing how flat their ratings have been since the spring while Power has gained all of their former listeners. Whomever is in market management is an idiot and doesn't know what to do with the station. CBS Radio VP of Rhythmic/Urban division, Reggie Rouse, needs to take administrative control over this station and basically tell them to go back to their urban-leaning format because this whole top40 attempt has been an epic failure.

I notice They Change Their Logo i guess to appeal to women with the color purple.

Station sounds HORRIBLE!!!! My God, just blow it up and start all over again. What is the playlist, like 30 songs? I agree, bring back the upbeat old school that Star won't touch.

Such a shame this station is going nowhere. Big stick and sounding awful. Are you urban or CHR? Where's the morning show?

:(
