102 JAMZ Orlando

I think they are going to become a ChR-urban based on the music i see them playing now. a local morning show, and younger DJ will probably beat power 95.3. Power 95.3 is already going down in their latest ratings recently.

I can see them doing what WPGC did, but 'PGC urban lean was more prominent than 102 Jamz. However, it is worth the try.

Exactly since their finally going back to local morning radio. I'm curious to who in Orlando area will get the morning job.

So Orlando can only support 1 Urban station which happens to be Urban AC ran by Cox? Rhythmic is cool, but hopefully 102 JAMZ won't try to sound like Cox's POWER 95.3. I'd assume it's safe to say 102 JAMZ is now "Hits & Hip-Hop."

They Actually do sound like Power 95.3 from what i heard the other day when i listen online for an hour. i'm not sure about the mix shows but they are playing artist like LMFAO, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry i heard.

i don't see WJHM going back to Urban. They just added "Glad You Came" by The Wanted, so it looks like they're now a full blown Rhythmic Top 40.

No, this was a decision by CBS suits in NYC to shift it towards the rhythmic direction, which does leave a large black audience deprived of an actual urban station. However, I believe the biggest mistake was allowing mornings to be syndicated for the past 5 years because it cost 102 Jamz its urban music base.

Do anyone think their future local morning show will consist of Latino personalities like power 95.3 morning show. Orlando do have a large Latino population that Power went after, and got.

You think syndicated mornings had something to do with it??? Lots of Urban stations added Smiley or Harvey and stayed solid. Is it just a sign of the times?? Is Orlando a PPM market?

Orlando is a PPM market with only 15.6% of the population being black (although it is growing but not as fast as the Hispanic population). Also unlike the other markets with Rickey Smiley or Steve Harvey, WJHM is owned by CBS and targeted 18-49 initially, but wind up chasing the 12-24 year olds. CBS urban stations only are successful if they are hyper-local (from on-air to musical selection of regional artists) and have focus (see WVEE, WPEG, and WZMX). None of the other CBS urban stations were syndicated in the morning.

102 Jamz has been sputtering since the early 00s after the long time morning show host "DJ Huk-Her" was let go then Steve DeMann vacated to Cox. It could have survived as a CHRurban if there was leadership on air and behind the scenes there. However, there wasn't so CBS suits is going to shift it to the Rhythmic category, which is always their 'safe option'.

I notice the NBA All Star Game will be in Orlando in a few weeks. Do you all think Power or 102jamz or both stations will do anything special that weekend on air? I was guessing all weekend mix hows.

They only do. Another Cox dictate from Atlanta for their stations. If you guys do go to the NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando at the end of February, well be prepared to be disappointed with the on-air mixing. CBS has seriously reduced any mixing to only select time slots with 102 Jamz and Star along with Power only does it on weekends. I shake my head at this whole situation considering, Orlando and Central Florida are very active nightlife-wise and musically for urban artists (major tour stops).

You Are both right on the mixing part. Both stations till keep it on playlist for the whole except weekend when 102 Jamz have a night mix show. As for Sunday's both 102 Jamz and Power 95.3 go head to head in the mix sadly.

The sad part is Miami isn't any better with Cox 99 JAMZ. I like West Palm Beach's X-102.3 ran by CBS.

yea i agree X102.3 is better then 102 jamz, and their sister stations sadly.

From what i've heard they give a Rhythmic party station sound. Listening online they do have mixshows at 5:00pm and currently i'm listening to a mixshow from 10pm-12am called the 10 O'clock Takeover. Honestly, they don't sound too bad but does Orlando need 2 Rhythmic stations displacing Urban Hip-Hop and R&B? BTW, 102 JAMZ no longer uses "Orlando's Official #1 for Hip-Hop and R&B." The new positioner is "Orlando's Most Commercial Free Music"
