102 Jamz

The novelty boost for 102 Jamz seems to have been short lived. The last month prior to the flip the station had a 3.2 in the monthlies and then soared to a 5.8 the month of the flip. Since then it's been down 4.2-4.1

Not sure if Lizette Perez's third go-round on the station will help that or not.

The soar was within the month of no commercials, too. I'm sure that had an impact on the ratings, along with the freshness of the new group of songs that this market hasn't heard in a decade. While I think the Music Director of this station is doing a good job, there are some songs I wish they did not add or play less often. I hope the 5:00 Traffic Jam helps in ratings for that particular hour, because I've always been a fan of mix shows. I'm still waiting on one more essential local program to be added to make this comeback complete.

I was really digging it the first month or so. Nearly every song was a good 'oh wow' that I instantly knew and took me back to where I was in the 90s and early 2000s. More recently more songs have been tune out for me simply because I don't know them.

That said, I'm nowhere near the target demo for the station and for me it's just a thrill when I hear the CHR throwbacks I remember playing as currents 20 years ago.

Ohh Ohhh…
As someone said, at launch it was nice, new and shiny but is that over?? Ratings are sliding downward month over month.

Whats next?
• Adding current top Hip-Hop/R&B to the mix?
• Local Morning show?
• Mixshows and DJs?

Do they even have a morning show at all yet?
Besides the 5'o'clock Traffic Jam & the 2 on-air personalities, what other specialty programs or mixshows have they added?
I have noticed songs being added periodically, which is great, but some songs (especially those released after 2005) should also be played less often.
The station should be sounding like when they were at their prime with their highest ratings as the original "102 Jamz", probably around 1993ish. I do understand that the budget is not there for it today, but I want to see this station succeed as is, without adding newer music or skewing into another format for the sake of ratings.
As I have said before, I have noticed my own radio show's listener interactions & online stream listener count shown inside the WPRK 91.5FM studio has been back to normal, maybe even higher, & stayed constant since mid-September from that temporary August null when 102 Jamz was still "nice, new, & shiny" with "10,000 songs in a row". I have adjusted my playlist a bit since they returned, & am enjoying the positive feedback from my fans who have actually noticed the slight tweak. 2025 will be my 20th year on-air without making a single penny doing my radio show, & I am thankful for my fans & listeners have stayed loyal with me, even when there is paid competition with stronger FM signals in this market.

My experience has been over the years that, unless the new format is totally dumb (think Chinese gong music and busy signals) the first book out of the box is usually the best for a while as there is a lot of sampling going on.

Chinese gong music and busy signals
This would be a great idea for a stunt to use for an upcoming format flip & an audience dump. 😂
