I, too, have mixed feelings but it's a start in my opinion. I do hear a large mix of classic alternative (i.e early Blink 182 and Sum 41, Nirvana, Weezer, etc.) which is typical of most alternative stations across the nation anyways, a couple of older alternative songs (Bob Marley, Billy Idol, Depeche Mode), and a fair mix of 2000s/2010s (The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Twenty One Pilots, MGMT, Glass Animals) and yes there are some newer songs (heard mostly "Downstairs" by Matt Maeson, but also heard "Ensenada" by Sublime, "Get The Message" by The Paradox, "Dracula" by Tame Impala, and "So Far So Fake" by Pierce the Veil).
But in San Antonio's defense, the market itself isn't much of an alternative market compared to let's say Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, or Los Angeles which had stations that set the foundation since the 80s or 90s. Back in 2015 when App was launched, it was an attempt to test the format. Since its first demise in 2017, a lot of App listeners were disappointed (myself included) to hear yet another hip hop station. Today, I'm glad App is back but I really was hoping it would replace Sports Star on 94.1 HD1 to really compete against 99.5. I'd love to see a competition in SA similar to what happened in Dallas (when Alt 103.7 took down heritage mainstream rocker 97.1 The Eagle) but like I said, San Antonio is a much different market than Dallas.
I will say one thing: at least I haven't heard Tool, Metallica, or God-forbid "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" being butchered to death like on 99.5
