I guess it just depends on the target audience you're trying to reach and what mood you feel like at the time to determine who is better because Hot 107-7 in Birmingham and Hot 103-5 in Huntsville aren't the same format. Hot 107-7 is stricktly R&B Urban A/C, but they are heavy on hits from the 90 through now with little music mixed in dating later than that, so they are trying to target adults 25 to 40. That's different from traditional Urban A/C stations that are heavy on playing R&B from the 70's and 80's and light on current R&B because they are targeting 35 to 54. Hot 107-7 does a good job at bridging the gap between young 12 to 25 R&B audiences and older 35 to 54 R&B audiences. When I'm in the mood to listen to R&B I really like Hot 107-7 and I think their play list is right on for their target audience (which I fall into). Hot 103-5 is targeting younger audiences 12 to 35. They are heavy on Hip Hop with some current R&B hits as well as some current rhythmic hits mixed in. You are right it does resemble the old 107-7 when it was WENN back in the day but the big difference is the rhythmic twist. When compairing WEUP and Hot 103-5, Hot 103-5 is Rhythmic leaning where as 103.1 WEUP is stricktly urban. I am liking Hot 103-5's play list better than WEUP's though because there is more variety. Hot 103-5 will pull much of the black audience because of its heavy urban base, but I also think most of the white audience listening to this style of music will lean to Hot 103-5 when choosing between them and WEUP because of the rhythmic cuts Hot blends into the mix. It's hard to compair the three because they are all a little different from each other, but that's a good thing I think because it gives a better variety and more choice on the dial.
