103.7

It appears that 103.7's main transmitter has been off for several days. If its on the air at all, it's not receivable in Beaumont. Is it even listenable in Houston, but with less coverage area? I'm guessing the current operator could care less if anyone hears it.

103.7 is on the air, but apparently has been using the auxiliary site for almost a week now. Guessing major maintenance is happening at the main site, perhaps as a stipulation of the sale to EMF?

I can pick them up on my car radio in the driveway here in NW Houston near 290/610 but on my portable fm radio inside the house, I can hear it but there is alot of static and not listenable.

I think they had posted on their face book about a lightning strike.

Nope. The air conditioners at the main site went on strike.

If so, sure taking them a long time to fix. And the site is only seven years old. Of course getting service people to a rural location can be a time consuming process...especially if new A/C units have to be installed.

Just Kurious

What is the location of it's auxiliary site and what is its HAAT and ERP?

*K* for KOMANDO.

I am under the impression that there is no auxiliary site, just an auxiliary antenna...and that the antenna is side-mounted on their tower south of Devers off of FM 1410.

As of Monday evening the signal seems to be back to normal at my Cy-Fair location, and it doesn't appear to be tropo enhancement.

Is 103.7 being heard in B/PA again? That would confirm the main site is back on.

And...I may have spoken too soon. Just before midnight the signal has deteriorated back to the level it has been at the past ten days. Was much, much stronger at my earlier check, at its normal level. So appears the maintenance currently underway is probably not complete yet.

A posting on the KHJK Facebook page this morning from a Beaumont listener laments that they were able to hear the station for a day (presumably Monday) but it was gone again. So it is obvious that the main transmitter was indeed back on the air yesterday, but the station is currently back on the auxiliary site. Still more maintenance to do, or the repairs that were done didn't hold up.

A Facebook reply posted yesterday states that the station hopes to have the tower issues resolved this week. Today's weather probably threw a wrench in things.

Another question for the frequency experts here. Could KHJK move to
103.5, and move the tower closer to Houston?

No, under current spacing rules (which aren't likely to change) that would run into problems with both KLTN, not to mention the current required separation to KRBE. The FCC makes no distinction between 2nd and 3rd adjacent separation requirements for full-power stations; KHJK is already as close as possible to Houston.

Plus, it would become a first adjacent to 103.3, which would actually require it to move further away from Houston!

The KHJK signal is back to normal level Wednesday evening, so perhaps the repairs are complete. Can anyone in B/PA check reception there?
