I live in Gahanna, only about 10 miles from Ted's transmitter and it is the only one of all the metro area class A's that I cannot receive without a full quieting signal unless I play around with my antenna system. This even includes such things as the Wazoo and 106.3 over in London, as well as WVKO-FM. I can't help but wonder if the Mnichs have ever considered commissioning a field strength survey on that installation because there obviously is a problem with the radiation pattern. This seems especially true if they have already repositioned their antenna to allow more signal to the south per their latest construction permit.

This having been said, the best thing they could do now that they are going talk is to dump the stereo generator and make maximum use of what little signal they do have by running mono.

So we'll have 3 stations with political talk (610, 1230, 103.9).  And 3 1/2 stations with sports talk (1460, 1230, 103.9, 610)?  (I'm counting 610 as 1/2, with their Buckeye Coverage.)  I was told besides Jim Rome, 1230 would also be carrying Fox Sports.  Not sure if I believe that now.  The true question is this... does any of them come close to taking ratings from 610?!?  My guess is... no.  The other 3 just have too weak of signals and lack of local talk, although 1460 has local talk, I can't call that "quality" talk... those guys hurt my ears.  Interesting though to see Mark the Shark in the PM Drive hours going against Corby and Fox Sports going against Rome on 1230 and Ricodarti and "sometimes Speilman" on 1460.  That's way too much sports talk for a town that doesn't even have a pro team... and don't even try to count the CBJ as a pro team... hockey doesnt count... HA!

Don't forget WOSU-AM or NPR on WCBE.  More talk.

Which makes NO sense to me because if you look at the construction permit it is in the EXACT same position with the EXACT same height with the only difference being a power upgrade.

tedtalks signal is pretty good for an fm. coming down to c-bus on business last thursday from neohio, i caught ted on fringe in mansfield and very strong in fredricksburg(95/71) during the 9am hour of bob and ted and the 10am hour of glenn. signal was strong on 71 all the way down to grovecity. friday had to go to hillsboro, caught fsr and mark the shark in pm drive down 62 clearly to 5 miles north of washington court house and fringe to leesburg(10m north of hillsboro). stereo light on my jetta radio was on. david5258

I've always thought it wasn't terrible depending on where you are at. I used to drive to/from Dayton twice a week and I would lose 104.7 from Dayton on the east side of Springfield and pick up 103.9 when I lost that signal.

This being said, I can't get it AT ALL downtown. When driving down 670 from just north of downtown through the west side, I get nothing but static until right around Hague Ave exit. Anyone driving out of downtown after work that wants to catch Mark and Logan on Sports is out of luck. I will be interested to see if the power upgrade changes that at all.

My experience with 103.9 on E-bound 70 has mirrored yours -- I could pick it up starting on the East side of Springfield, albeit in near-mono for awhile despite the stereo indicator. But the station that had to fade for this to happen wasn't Dayton's 104.7, but rather 103.9 WXEG Dayton (Beavercreek).

My downtown area experiences match yours. As for the upgrade, based on what some technically savvy posters have said, it's going to have minimal impact despite the misleading quote in the Distort article.

The Ted-FM changing to 'talk' rumor was started about a year ago on this very board. In fact, I mentioned this to a TED-FM promotions person at last years Arnold Expo Ted-FM booth.They set up an elaborate booth at the expo last March 1-3. I told him that it was rumored that Ted-FM was going to an all talk format. He told me that nothing was in the works but he didn't' care for the present('We Play Everthing') format himself.

I looks like this had been considered all along and they were just waiting for the right opportunity
to come along.

At 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, Ted FM was still a music station. Little did 103.9 listeners—of whom there were too few—know the days of its “We Play Everything” format were numbered.

A couple hours before quitting time that afternoon, station management received a call from the producers of Glenn Beck’s syndicated conservative talk show, which was being yanked from 610 WTVN as that station shuffled its lineup.
