This post will no doubt bring out the "haters". Is that the lingo the kids use?
After listening to all three country stations intently for a week, I think that 103 should drop country. The station is trying to mix the strengths of WSIX and the Wolf. Yes, the Wolf has strengths. In the process the identity of 103 is blurred. It's the third choice now for country. What should they flip, too? Rock N Roll. I know this has been brought up before, but only from the ones longing for the "good ole days". I remember those days and think "good new days" could happen with a change to rock. Here's 4 ways to start...
1)Revive the name and slogan..."103 KDF, Nashville's Rock N Roll Station"
2)Play rock from the 70's, 80's, 90's and just a few currents. The mix should appeal to both men AND women. Tom Petty, Boston, Pat Benatar, Heart, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Motley Crue, U2, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Collective Soul, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Play some Nashville artists to truly reflect the slogan. Walk the West, Royal Court of China, Webb Wilder. There's PLENTY of music to choose from.
3)Make the presentation fun! The Rock has that old AOR "rock snob" posturing on occasion.
4)Search nationwide for the right jocks. This is most important next to the music. It will take a special breed to do this format right. The "youngins" can't do it and the "burnouts" won't do it. It would be nice if former KDF rock jocks could be considered, but that is about as crazy as this idea
There's much more to it, but you get the idea. Bring on the comments and criticism. Good debate and discussion is what this board is for.
