104.1 format flip

RFLA - I respect you immensely but you're giving out too many props to Jason Ginty. What has KRDJ done but wallow at the bottom of the pile? I believe Ginty was also at the End. Wouldn't bet the ranch on it though.

Yes, he's in-house and probably cheap. But then we'll just get another bad station that won't get any numbers or advertisers and won't last.

Better than Diva? Anything is better than Diva. But Citadel doesn't have the money or the intelligence to do it right and program a station to win. They also don't have a Rock or Alternative pedigree.

I would not be surprised to see W&J on 104.1 within 6 months though.

Just my humble opinion.

I get to listen to KRDJ from time to time and I'm giving props as it sounds more like what most people want to hear (I know down here on the bayou, more people would be into the harder rock such as Slipknot than say My Chemical Romance who would listen) than a station that is consulted to death like "The rock (classics with one new Mudvayne that slipped thru some how) of New Orleans redo.

I do also listen to alot of others and agree on the Fox out of Hattiesburg and tk 101 (and makes me question why the best programmed rockers for CC are in bi-annual diary areas for?)

I am also figuring on the job he did at WRNO as a basis for my comments but yeah he's the best for the money that Citadel has in this area .

104 the X is on a class A transmitter in Donaldsonville and was mainly aimed at the area around LSU. I know a few in North BR who are pissed at the 104.5 move to ESPN due to the bad reception and now 104.1 leaving means they are back to Sat. Radio in the Bedroom communities north of Baton Rouge. Thibodaux is a more fair assesment on the transmitter signal reliably but yeah it can be heard in Houma,Morgan City, and Lockport.

to GJRousse, I think they were told and fully expected to be back up and running, but my guess is this was also the same time of the KLRZ sale to citadel also, and most expected at the time for Rockin' country to go there.. my guess is Citadel had some deal they couldn't back out of, or something to make them flip a successful rock outlet to a also ran country station.

I put my comment on W&J as I'm not sure if Clear Channel holds their affliate contracts or if they do. If they do, I expect them to stay where they are, if CC holds the cards, they can pull the same stunts they did to WWL and WIST and yank affliations all over.

My question would be why create a new classic rocker when they already got rid of one of them unless they have something in store such as a move like this would be my question.

probably won't happen but if they ever get KCIL's CP running they could simmulcast or move 106.3 to 107.5

no way anybody would do country there after the 106.7 bomb

First of all, 104-1 was a TERRIBLE active/alt/modern rock station. Grew up in NOLA and could not listen. Calling themselves the "Rock of New Orleans" while vt-ing from Tampa (or wherever) was a slap in the face !
Luckily, I run around the south and good rockers are 103-7 in Hattiesburg "The Fox Rocks", TK101 in Pensacola, and the cleverly-named "Project 9-6-1" in Atlanta. I do like 104-9 the X in Baton Rouge, but the previous comment about losing the station in Raceland was false - there are many times you lose them at I-10 & I-12. Their lack of ratings is lack of signal - and Guaranty has done nothing about it for years.
Even cash-strapped Citadel could improve on the lackluster former 104-1 as well as bring up the 92.3 ratings from the toilet - just don't bring Mike Tice with it (please). Let B-97 have Ryan Seacrest to get rid of that afternoon swirl, uh, trainwreck (how these two can make money doing this is how sad radio is today).
Finally, "The Brew" is one of the stupidest monikers along with Martini, Diva, The River. At least "Bayou" fits the area. Amazing how new formats always play all music with wide playlists to get us to listen and then drop down to an extremely limited playlist with lousy AM run-on-at-the mouth syndicated jabber. One of the reasons I quit "trying to listen" to 104 the X in Baton Rouge was they got away from locally-hosted mostly music AM drive to syndicated crap with a little music thrown in.
Let's see if someone can get NOLA a decent active rocker !

BJDJ;
I was going to reply but RFLA explained it better than I could about 104.9 signal down the bayou. On a clear day it can be heard as far south as lockport. I do not dispute the 10/12 split but next time take a drive down this way and see for yourself or ckeckout its maped pattern.

This totally reminds me of the failed "Fox" format that was on 104.1 a few years back. 6 format flips in 8 years. Mix, Fox, Kiss, Hallelujah, Rock of New Orleans, Brew.

Basically the 10/12 split is about right some days depending upon skip for the signal heading north of the transmitter as remember as it sometimes even has a issue into Thibodaux on those days

So both of you are right

Was thinking about something and was curious what you all think

If the Brew adds a morning show, what would we expect to see?

Since Weerdo (moderator that is his air name) let us in that they are independant (but my guess is to look for their rates to go up at contract time unless they are very loyal to those stations) means there are a few options for mornings:

Since Bob and Tom which is what CC normally puts on their stations bombed about 10 years ago hard who does that leave?

Rod Ryan coming in to do a show like he did for WRNO?

More Music Mornings as a apparent hit against the almost solid talk show of W&J ?

(Dark Horse) Let Tasha from WRNO do her own show on the Brew (which is more of her forte)

Researching the "Brews" around the nation, apparently either local or VT talent but no national shows except on one Brew in Wichita (Bob and Tom) with most apparently running VT.

Curious what mornings will bring.

Also is it me, or has CC's playlist narrower than Bayou?

Definitely more music with a LOCAL live dj - no voicetracking for NOLA - they'll never win.
Tasha is already on staff (same ownership) and would be a great choice. Not too much talk - do it like "The Fox Rocks" in Hattiesburg.
I don't see Rod Ryan (who did a good live show here but vt-ing didn't work for me) coming back from Houston to a station that changes format as much as 104.1 (historically - although the recent format was one of the longer running).

Did Marie Laveau put a hex on this frequency? I swear, every minute you look up, it changes. Maybe they should've tried FM sports. You can run it cheaply and make lots of money off of it.

Actually 103.7 "The Fox" is one of the highlights of a answer I made earlier about why stations in say arbitron 200 can sound and do so good for CC, but they can't program a near 50 town right?

And Rod was on the last version of 104.1 and was originally on 99.5 but both were VTed in as he's been in Houston since before Katrina on 94.5 the Buzz. And I don't see him leaving a successful for him morning show there to come back to NOLA to a station that may flip again in a year and a half (The Rock of New Orleans lasted the longest in last 10 years at something like 3 1/2 years).

Amen to the whole thing! Now how much longer will NOLA listeners have to stomach the afternoon trainwreck on B97? Can you say Seacrest? If I put B97 on I usually listen briefly. (can't take most of the music :p) I avoid that station completely during afternoon drive for that reason.
