104.1 WABD vs. 107.3 HMN: So, what do y'all think?

The battle between 104.1 WABD and 107.3 Hit Music Now is on! But, it looks like 104.1 is WINNING, on their Facebook page at least. Thanks to the former WABB staff and a better, and yet stronger signal (cough, cough 107.3)..However, personally the music on 107.3 is much better and has a better flow to it. Cumulus CHR's especially from my own past hearing experiences, they love playing Coldplay's Paradise more than ever. Yes, it's one of the greatest songs on the album but however, it's getting old kinda fast. Sound familiar? Think of anyone else? WABB, perhaps?

Anyway, besides the point - what do you blogger's out there think of 104.1 WABD and 107.3 HMN? How long will the battle last for each of them? I'd bet you that (if) 107.3 HMN does not have solid numbers and remains the underdog of the ratings by August, if not Labor Day weekend- look for a change on 107.3 Hit Music Now and probably, Rob 42 - FM Talk will soon replace it. Again, I cannot think of another format hole that will do well. But the signal say's a lot of the mishaps on 107.3. Anyways, glad to see Reid BACK on the Radio on the Gulf Coast @ 107.3 (my favorite on WABB cause he is from my home state of North Carolina). However, putting him on the midday slot (10a-2p) is not good management thinking when he was on WABB sometime last year at the night slot. Instead, God knows why 107.3 HMN has Billy the Kid, a premium choice dj that is simulcasted across other Clear Channel CHR's on the night-time slot??!?!?. Personally, this was a lazy decision. I do hope this is not permanent. It's ganna take a huge turn-around if they want to be like a 93.3 FLZ! As for 104.1 WABD, DJ's everybody was dying for are good. They sound good on WABD. Wonder what the future holds for them, that is 104.1 and 107.3?

So, I'm interested in what y'all think!
Who do you chose: 104.1 WABD or 107.3 Hit Music Now.

WABD because they are keeping ABB's spirit alive. Also, for what it's worth, they are back in HD again. (despite no HD lock)

Wha!? The HD must have just come back on today, it wasn't on last night when I did a band scan. Sounds good here in Baldwin County. WRKH's HD is back on with WNTM on the HD2, so I have something besides the Phil Hendrie Show to listen to overnights. Last night WAVH was obliterated by Hitz 106 from somewhere east of PC. They must have pulled the encoder from TK 101 because it's completely analogue again. I've gotten Q 101.3 from Meridian the last few nights because of that.

As for music, I am actually finding myself more drawn to HMN. They just seem to be playing music that is more likely to get my toes tapping. But I am out of the demo and find it too urban for my tastes. WABD sounds stale like WABB did… mixing in things that even I'm tired of, and I never listend to CHR before! But to be fair, I tend to shy away from modern personality driven music radio.

WABD comes in like garbage here in Crestview. So I rarely listen to them. 107.3 is an okay serviceable typical cc chr. I usually listen to Q92 or 106.3 the seabreeze if I listen to the radio at all.

Does Seabreeze only broadcast in mono? I logged them here the other day but never got a stereo carrier.

WABD should be pretty strong in Crestview; it's got a pretty robust signal. That's "out of market" anyway so I doubt they ever target anything that far east.

The Seabreeze does broadcast in stereo. Cumulus has Zzzzz96 covering FWB playing the exact same music, making wabd irrelevant in this market.

What does that make, ten stations, with reasonably good signals playing similar music in the Destin/Ft. Walton area, counting all listenable stations?

Would have to be a tough....

CCENG, you ok?

Soon you will have many LPFM stations to listen to with the current rules proposed.

It be interesting to see what happens in this mess. The transmitters are too far away to cover FWB/Destin proper. You guys also forget that Destin has 107.9 WPFM in the clear.

If they did it right for proper FWB/Destin coverage, they should put HMN's stick back to Pensacola, same tower height and keep the 100KW power. This move was a big mistake to them. Clear Channel has the money but are they willing to do this? This would be a bold move in their part to cover mobile, pensaocla, ft walton areas with one big stick. Their signal was killer back in the old days. Now, it's crap.

I got my bets on 1)either HMN switching to news talk 2)WABD switching back to KICKS country (that did well) and 3)WHWY becoming "The Great 98" just like the old days. Live DJ's 24 hours a day. (hopefully, have that stereo/mono issue fixed) or are having live jocks in the studio 24 hours a day a thing of the past?

Place your bets all
