104.1 WTQR To Finish Reconstruction

After it lost its perch as the top Country station in the market as it fell behind Entercom’s “93.1 The Wolf” WPAW, Clear Channel’s 104.1 WTQR Winston-Salem/Greensboro, NC has spent much of the summer “Under Construction”. That will come to an end on Friday, August 5 at 1:04pm.

Gee, isn't that what The Wolf did to WTQR several years ago? How young can they go and be a competitor? I suppose the 6 - 18 demo is wide open!

I hope that web address name isn't their final choice. They need to throw in a legal ID in the URL to make it just rollllllllll off the tongue!

The station’s airstaff, including morning hosts Jeff Roper and Angie Ward, along with afternoon host Jeff Wicker have been off the air since the end of June. They will return with the relaunch of the station.

Several times since June I've noticed Roper on Channel 20 in the mornings between 6:00 & 6:30 with different co-hosts. Was he not also on WTQR doing his show too? Or is management telling us a lie when they say he wasn't on the air. I don't dare believe that upper management would attempt to deceive us. Please say it ain't so!

I have to say I thing that was the best relaunch that has ever happened anywhere.!!!!!!1!!!! How exciting and awesome could it be?????????? I didn't hear it myself, but heard from a friend that it was awesome and sounded like a top 40 station from the 90's and that they played so many awesome things about themselves with an old timey jingle a few times and singers talking and then played more things about themselves and said that a lot of the music the listeners were used to listening to and loved really suck and they do so now they won't play what they have been hearing but a more hotter type counrty music which is like Randy Travis and newer ones from what I understand from inside sources. Look out WQDR!!!! They're coming for your trophy case!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)

     :mad:Gee golly bumps.....I am sooooo mad at those people for playing with my mind and making, like they like think that I'm like, some sort of, like older, person, and like   :mad:won't like to hear like a Merle Haggggard song every like now and like then. You like see...I'm like trying to like think and type like a younger, like person....You know what I mean? Like? ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Did not know your could spell WPAW wth a "Q". Give me a break. WTQR spends a month working on thier presentation and this is what they came up with?

A big yawn to the new Q whatever - who wants to place bets now that there will be NO country in say 2 years on this once country giant?

Now pardon this old fart while he gets back to listening to REAL country, non-corporate WBRF.

Uh uh no way. That would never happen.

Big yawn is right! Now WBRF can have all the Classic Country listeners! Go for it! WTQR will never promote the program changes the way the Wolf did. That's how the Wolf came out on top.

I just rightr now noticed that WBRF call letters almost say Barf!! :p :p :p :p :p :D :D :D But seriously folks, they are a great station I listen to in Ohio, too!!!!!!! ;D  :( 8)

Looking at the most popular threads in this forum, seems like there is one thing in common. They all seem to discuss "the way it was in the old days..."

Did any of you who are poo-poo'ing WTQR's efforts to re-brand itself before said effort really even gets off the ground, stop to think that maybe...just MAYBE...you've aged out of the desired demographic? And what you think about what's on the air right now is really pretty irrelevant?

No one likes 2GNC. No one likes Simon. No one likes KZL. No one likes anything Clear Channel does either. What do all of these stations and programs have in common? They're trying to attract people young enough to probably be your kids or grand kids.

When will you all realize that you've become that "grumpy old man" you probably used to make fun of, back when you were on the air?

Yeap, and I know who that grumpy old man you mean is!! I worked with him back in the day and he brought in broccoli and got sticky on the turntable and would poot up a storm and then he did news and threw water at the control room window for leaving his reverb on and one time he did a british accent on some spot for no reason!!!!!     ;) ;) ;) :D Also one time he broke in my door at my office because my radio was up too loud for him to do reports that morning and I wasn't there yet!!!!!!!! Some of you know who it is and he is still old I think, too and grumpier too I think but haven't seen him in years and really like the oile sommagun!!!!! ??? 8) ::) :p :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(

I LIKE 2GNC. I LIKE Simon. I still think this relaunch of WTQR is lame, lame, lame. If they don't advertise it, it's going nowhere. The Wolf beat WTQR by advertising that howling wolf over and over and over again. It was just a cooler station and they got the attention of listeners who then found out the music and personalities were pretty darn good. Without advertising Q104 doesn't have a chance. And what is the "Q" all about?
