105.1 In PC

I think it just happen this week, i listen to news 13 every morning on the way home from work and i heard monday that they had a new partner and it was 103.5. Tuesday morning was the last morning that 105.1 had news 13 broadcast. But i still hear a promo every once in awhile saying that there still smooth jazz 105.1 and there not.

Brilliant decision. Welcome to the under 2.0 share...oh! wait. It was already that before. Welcome to the under 1.0 share.

That should be good for WSBZ in South Walton. If memory serves me correctly, 105.1 and WSBZ were both using Jones Radio Network when 105.1 flipped from "Kat Kountry 105.1" years ago. This forced WSBZ to modify its lineup. I don't know how this was done, but WSBZ always sounded better than WASJ. In my opinion it probably had to do with the ownership. I'm sure Mark Carter cared far more about his station than the management at Root Broadcasting, er, Waitt Radio, er, Double-0 radio ever did about WASJ.

When I lived in PC, I was one of the few who ever listened to it, I guess. I liked it because SBZ didn't come in clearly east of Highway 79. But when you don't promote the format and you don't sell the format (as opposed to selling the numbers), I guess it's doomed to fail. Nowadays, if I need a jazz fix, I just flip on XM and tune it to channel 70 (Real Jazz) and 71 (Smooth Jazz).

Outside of college football and the Braves, 99 percent of the PC market doesn't care much for sports. And there's only so much you can squeeze out of advertisers for football and Braves baseball. It'll be interesting to see how long sports will stay on the 105.1 frequency. I guess the only positive is it can be automated. But then again, so could smooth jazz from Jones Radio, and we all know how well that has previously worked for the 105.1 frequency. I do think a 2.0 share is being generous.

I feel sorry for 13, being tied to Double-O Radio these days. I mean, not even Magic wanted them. That has to hurt. I suppose if this media marriage doesn't work, there's always WLTG, because we all know CC is out of the question.

106.3's signal is a small signal though. I can hear 105.1 better then 106.3 out here. I agree.. sportz on FM.. BLAH
Now, remove the stereo carrier since it's not f...in necessary, (unless they want to pull a WAAZ and make it noisier to hear in fringe areas.. GURR..and yes AAZ DOES broadcast in stereo want proof?)

(I know..I know.. but it's damn annoying to listen to their programming if your radio doesn't have a stereo mono switch)

Just was wondering, can you folks in PCB hear 98.1 the ticket out there?

In the truck, yes, clearly. At home, no.

My brother is ~thrilled~ with the 105.1 change - considered it a birthday present! I like it, too.

it will be interesting to see what teams they pick up for their college games, though...many of the most local "interest" teams seem to have an affiliate already.

btw, Rob...it is easy for an engineer to make that little stereo light pop on on your radio without even being in stereo...just ask WYOO

I assume that's 101.1. I know it's just a carrier. (not to be confused with Naples 101.1 that comes in here during fog tropo. not too many stations play elevator music)

DXing here has been grand thanks to the warm wx. Now that it's cooling off, back to normal.
