105.3 on air

Y'all check this out... http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=77947

It also should be noted that contrary to allegations raised by Mr. Henderson in the course
of emails to the FCC, Station K287BQ is rebroadcasting the HD-2 channel stream of Station
KODA(FM). That HD-2 channel stream is being programmed by Dabang Radio, which has
entered into a contractual relationship with CCVE to rebroadcast that HD-2 program stream from
KODA(FM) on Station K287BQ.

Maybe I'm crazy - but KODA-HD2 still appears to be running CHR programming, not Dabang. Can someone else confirm?

Unless Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes are Dabang artists (the last two artists played - both CHR staples) KODA-HD2 isn't feeding K287BQ.

Just went out to the truck to confirm again. Yep, definitely not the same content.

Heard an ID mentioning KTBZ-HD3 again, still not seeing an HD3 on KTBZ however.

It's there, and it does appear to be the Dabang format, but the HD3 channel isn't very solid. I tried listening about 12 miles from the transmitter site a little while ago, and it was cutting out badly. If I had to guess, they're operating in extended hybrid mode, with the HD3 channel in the extended partitions. Some older HD transmitters don't produce solid signals for the extended partitions.

I think I recall reading you're in the northern part of the metro sometime before. It's likely it would be very hard to receive KTBZ-HD3 there.

So now we can confirm that they are broadcasting illegally?

This license should just be cancelled.

Well, it depends.

Much to my surprise, N5TZQ was correct, and the programming for K287BQ was in fact on KTBZ-HD3 when I listened this afternoon. It's a tough catch because KTBZ-HD3 isn't performing very well.

That said, the license for K287BQ specifies KODA as the parent station.

So, they do have a station that they could rebroadcast airing their programming, it's just not the one they've notified the Commission that they're rebroadcasting.

Is that a violation? I'm not in the translator game, and I've never really studied it, so I'm not sure.

Aha. Yes, I am in Spring - near 45 and 2920. I have a hard time picking up KTBZ's HD period... so I guess it makes sense that I can't receive the HD3. Haven't had issues with other stations, including the other CC HD2 and HD3's.

I checked KTBZ earlier this evening on the HD radio in my wife's car. The display shows that there now is an HD-3 on 94.5, but when I tune to it the HD-3 won't decode. The HD-1 and HD-2 are solid. Very strange. The "extended HD partition" theory sounds intriguing; will have to Google further info.

I'll save you some searching.

Scroll down to the image of the hybrid waveform and extended hybrid waveform. http://ecee.colorado.edu/~liue/teaching/comm_standards/2011F_HD_Radio/

KTBZ-HD3 most likely exists in the crosshatch "extended hybrid" area.

Not only are the extended hybrid carriers closer to the analog signal, they're not redundant. The main HD Radio carriers are transmitted both above and below the analog signal. If there's interference to one, the other can still likely make it through.

The extended carriers aren't redundant - half of them are below the analog, half are above.

One thing that will absolutely tear the extended carriers up is overmodulation. Any station running the extended carriers has to limit their modulation to 110% or the analog will spill over onto the extended carriers and create interference.

What's the name of the station KTWL? I was picking it up by my house. We moved to Remington Ranch and am picking it up. Actually pretty good music.

Indeed, it is Texas Mix. I'm not sure how it's being received in Remington Ranch - I am 8 miles further north on 45, and I am still getting the Dabang interference. Interference appears to have cut down - I am now able to pick up KTWL in Tomball area, near Kuykendahl and 99.

It's still interfering here in Spring as well, close to the county border in Spring Creek.

Unless I'm picking up another country station cause it was playing like COUNTRY BANDA lol. Like some country song that had a Tuba, kinda like a marching Band song with a guitar. Couldn't ask Siri the name of the song since it was raining and bad driving conditions. And when they said the name of the station I heard distortion so I couldn't hear the name.

KTWL plays some pretty interesting stuff... widest playlist of any "country" station I've listened to. Wouldn't surprise me if that was indeed what you were picking up.
