of course I meant WFEA in Manchester!

Realistically, pretty much every AM (and a good percentage of FMs) in NNE could sign off overnights and few would notice. We're not exactly full of "cities that never sleep".

That having been said, how much money would that really save? If I'm not mistaken, commercial accounts have peak metering for electricity. In other words, the highest power draw during a billing cycle is considered to be what's used continuously and is billed accordingly. Under that sort of arrangement signing off overnight would have no effect on the electric bill.

ThatOldRadioGuy: You think it's OK to be off the air for 11 hours and NO ONE NOTICES? This is the state of affairs in radio today. You think it's bitching? It's healthy to point out that the jumbo jet is in a free fall nose dive and about to crash. In your world a passenger would be scolded for looking out the window, noticing we're crashing, and saying something to the pilot! YES the silence sense either FAILED or was not present. Otherwise someone would have taken notice. HECK, there was someone in the building running another stations' programming and was not notified of it. There is also no phone system hooked up for a listener to call in and talk to a human being and say "hey did you know you were off the air"?
The "bitching" you so elequently refer to are people trying to SAVE this industry and local radio.

Wasn't all that long ago jocks would be put on probation if more than 3 seconds of dead air.
If it became a problem they were let go.

Then there is the Farid Sueligman argument... Yeah you're right... People kill radio stations and groups of radio stations. But you can't fire those people...even if they run it into the ground!

Huh. That's interesting. So under this logic, there should be no attempts made to cut energy use for any given daypart because it's billed the same anyway. Leads folks to use more than necessary just because they're "paying for it so might as well use it". Not very green, is it?
