105.5 The Vulcan...

their other station is supposedly still carryng them (WAQX in Syracuse NY).
I'm sure you all can tell what morning show I'd love to see on 105.5, but I know that ain't happening!

What they heck are they going to do there? CC Birmingham doesn't exactly have a history of developing new and original morning shows and they can't bring either of the old X teams back because they're gainfully employed elsewhere. My guess is that Lex and Terry will be making their Birmingham debut since CC uses them on almost all their other modern rock/alternative stations in the South. Eh, they're all right, I guess.

That would be my guess, but who knows.

I was thinking about this earlier, It's kinda funny, that this format has now made a complete circle on the dial. Started out on 105.9, moved to 107.7, then 100.5, and now 105.5, which used to be 105.9.

i was around from the start when 105.9 was the bear, then the x. the one thing they have had all along that i didn't like is a morning talk show. i'm 46 years old and hate talk radio, so i would hope they don't get a morning show and just play music.

And if CC grabs the WRAX calls (possible, I bet they go with something with a V in it, though) and leaves WENN open (also possible, although I bet they park them somewhere in case they want to do urban here again) for 107.7, that'd restore even more balance to the universe.

I know it's still too early to know for sure, but please tell me The Vulcan isn't going to be a rehash of WRAX. According to a RadioandRecords article it will have an alternative lean and most of the impromptu playlist so far sounds like that of The X.

Will it sound more like rock (http://www.rock1053.com/cc-common/CCOMRholder.html?pour=/playlist.html) or WRAX?

<i>ALL</i> of the playlist sounds like the X. It should, since it's ripped directly from the clone WRAX stream on MSN.

After 104.1 in New Orleans, another station goes from spiritual to "Satanic" overnight.

Paging Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson...

Which also gets me wondering, why would CC blow up a recent top 5 station for a format that was languishing near the basement in the last Arbitron? There had to be other candidates for a flip.

Billing. Namely, the fact that Hallelujah wasn't doing so well in that department because CC didn't know how to sell it. No way they were blowing up Bull, Q, or Magic, although they could have went with WRTR and hoped people would go the extra mile to pull it in.

Cox does know how to sell gospel, and WAGG-FM 97.3 would make even more sense now than it did before.

Alright - I'll bite. What show do you want?

I'd vote for Opie & Anthony since they're back on terrestrial, then take bets on how many days until they get pulled. :)

I was shocked too that CC pulled the gospel off FM; the time is certainly ripe for WAGG to make the move to FM.

Lex and Terry?

They had their chance in Birmingham and failed (years ago on 99.5.)

If it were me I'd do whatever I could to get B e a n e r and Ken back in Birmingham. I know some people don't want to hear that but they really fit in well with the format. The dismal ratings on The X were due more to moving the station to 100.5, lousy program directors (not the most recent one, but the two previous to that were absolutely useless.)

When was that? I wasn't here from '97-'01, so I would've missed it if it were during that time frame. I listen to them on XM occasionally, they're OK and certainly better than the likely alternatives of Bob & Tom, Mancow, or some random show getting called up from market #200-something.

B&K wouldn't work unless both of them moved back and actually did the show from the same studio. That can't happen for at least a year if it's ever going to happen. Of course, why brand your station with a bunch of liners that rip off B&K gags if they're not going to be on it? Maybe something is in the works, but I'd rather hear someone else if the show's still going to be the mess it was this last time around.

Not exactly. The Vulcan has played songs that were "too heavy" for The X. That's what I'm hoping for!

The word is that it is going to be gold-based 90s/early 00s rock, with 2-3 currents per hour mixed in there. Sounds like a melding of active and modern rock tracks without going too far in either direction (probably no Coldplay on the lighter side, but no Slipknot on the harder side.)

You're good Lou. About the time you were posting that, I was infact buying the new Slipknot DVD!

sounds like the Buzz here in Houston. The Buzz has become Cheap Channel's answer for alternative/new rock.

also, CC's The Buzz in Atlanta was just blown up. Could Whip be relocated further south?

How many times do you guys think Luka will be fired from this station??? tehehehe

By the way, the new site is already up: 1055thevulcan.com

Had a chance to hear it yesterday on US-45 between Shuqualak and Scooba; that's in Miss'ssippi north of Meridian. That's a class-C2 signal from 90 miles away, and with locals at 105.3 and 105.7.

What I heard didn't sound bad at all for a 4-day-old station. Processing wasn't too tortured, imaging was appropriate. Yeah, way too much Pearl Jam, but they'll grow out of it.

My vote is for B&K in the mornings. The station is named after their most-known bit, eh? Perhaps with Yankeeland iced over for the season, CC could steal them back down to balmy Birmingham. Where it will be 20 degrees tomorrow night. Umm....

glad to see we again finally have a radio station playing for the most part good music again!!! please stay with the harder stuff please !!! dont let it fade away like the other attempts did.
