Someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't former Columbus mayor Greg Lashutka destroy of Hot 105's music collection outside the studio with a steam roller in the parking lot? I kind of remember being really pissed off about that.

Yep. Part of the "No more gangsta rap" bandwagon that year.
They even mentioned playing no more hard rap in the Hot-to-Kiss launch. I have the flip on tape.
Wow, I can't believe they destroyed the entire Hot CD library. Unreal.

It was crazy.. I remember as a kid struggling to hear 93.7 Super Q for CHR because they played stuff on "Open House Party" that WNCI would not touch .. If I remember WNCI even edited the "countdown" show they had on air at the time cutting out the "rap style" tracks...

What would you crush today? A hard drive? This kind of stunt doesn't work in a virtual world.

Well, you could...if you crushed the entire computer! There might be people cheering in
a parking lot if you did that...

Or, take the old "typewriter off the roof of a building" toss and insert the word, "computer".

But wouldn't that be murder?  I mean in most cases that PC or server IS the jock too!

How about if I just drive something big and heavy through the front doors instead, and then take it around for a spin inside? We'll evacuate the area first.

Try this one on for comparative insanity and unreal...when RadioU purchased the studios they are in which were once the hallowed grounds of WBBY, every LP, 45, CD, Cassette, etc was not only thrown out, they were cut in half pr crushed and thrown in the dumpster outside the studio doors...true. ::) :-\ :'(

Could you imagine how much money a radio station could make by selling a music library they were getting rid of instead of smashing it?

Why did they destroy all of the music library? Unreal. I remember back in the 90s WNCI did an on-air promotion where they gave away their entire vinyl music library. WTUE in Dayton did this as well, and QFM did also I believe. I'm not sure about any other stations in Dayton or Columbus, but I do know that Main Line in Dayton still has the entire Z-93 library as well as the WING-FM library. I would imagine they also are in possession of the WROU catalog as well as the catalog of the original "Big WAZU" that aired on 102.9 from 1989-1993, since previous companies that owned them were bought by the old owners of Main Line's Dayton properties, such as Great Trails, Blue Chip, & Radio One.

I'll guess you've never met John and Kathy Shumate.

Truer than ever given CC's latest bloodbath.

I remember the Arrow incarnation well. It introduced me to a lot of classic rock, but it was pretty light in that format compared to stations like QFM96, WTUE and definitely its Fox and Brew selves. Mixed in James Taylor and a lot more Boz Skaggs than you'd hear on real classic rock stations.

The Fox versions of 105.7 were a lot like that. E.g., you sure wouldn't hear the Gordon Lightfoot they played on the Brew or Q-FM-96. Arrow 105.7 also mixed in some "graffiti oldies" from the mid-60's like "Time Won't Let Me" by the Outsiders.

I never got why they went so light. Thought they'd get crushed by QFM if they went harder?

They were just following the original "Arrow" format template, as first used by KCBS-FM in LA.  I don't think it was intended as a head-on competitor for Classic Rock, especially harder CR-oriented rock (which is how Q would have been classified back then, though it's pretty center-of-the-road by today's standards).  As you may recall, Arrow stood for "All Rock & Roll Oldies."  They also included some 80's pop-leaning stuff like "Head over Heels," which I don't think LVQ would go near then -- if ever.  Actually, for the poor signal they had at the time, 105.7 did pretty well -- usually at least a 2.  And WAY better than the country Jacor replaced it with.  When Jacor's original Fox 105.7 came on (with some similarities to Arrow 105.7), I recall someone from Jacor mentioning that they were glad to see it because they missed Arrow 105.7.

At the time Jacor ran 105.7 the fox the first time they owned QFM96. When they became the Fox the second time QFM was owned by CBS radio by then. It would have been nice to see what would have happened if Nationwide would have never sold their radio stations.

Ah. Some of that, I didn't know, although the "All Rock & Roll Oldies" part refreshes my memory because now I remember that being in some liners. I enjoyed the format. There were songs I didn't care for, but rarely were there a couple in a row I didn't like.

IIRC, they even released an "Arrow" CD locally. I remember seeing one at an old NRM location.
Any idea what kind of ratings they did as Hot and later Kiss? Why did they abandon Kiss on 105.7 after launching it four months earlier?

What was the ERP and HAAT of 105.7 when it was 'Channel Z' at the tower site between Dublin and Marysville? On drives into Columbus from the north via I-71, it seems that I could get WMJI further south of Mansfield before Channel Z took over than I could since 105.7 moved to its current tower site where the Brew takes over just south of route 13.

I believe I pulled the right FCC file (that would been the app granted around 1994)

Someone may have mentioned this...but the majority of CD's inside a radio station have "Promotional Copy - Not For Sale" on them for a reason.
