They have a lot of their new imaging online too on the home page: http://www.1057thebrew.com/

The music they have snippits of there and the list on the playlist are interesting with some head-scratchers but it should pull a MUCH more varied listener-base I think. "Just like a Jukebox with real rock variety". I think this will definitely attack TedFM. Man CC has it out for them. First the Fox to counter Eagle and now The Brew to counter TedFM.

Unless it was missing from the list to begin with, it's gone now.
______________

Yes, The Bob and Tom show had been removed from their web site. Here is that page from last year. Click here for that page:

I'm sure they'd be happy to hurt Ted (and probably will), but I don't think Ted's small share is what they're primarily after.

The first Brew in Milwaukee turned the rock market there upside down, doing big damage to both the Classic Rocker and the Active Rocker. The latter has even changed its moniker and music a lot directly in response to the Brew. Both of those stations are owned by Saga (a big nemesis of CC Columbus) and had been pulling in boxcar nunbers for years, until the Brew came along.

So I would wager that CC is gunning for the lower-demo end of Q-FM the most, the Blitz next, and then a number of stations that play 80's rock and pop/rock including Ted and BNS-FM.

BTW, I wonder if the moniker "Brew" will hold as much appeal here as in initial market Milwaukee, the beer capital of the U.S. I know that when Bonneville tried to do a clone of Chicago's Classic Hits "The Drive" (named for Chicago's famous Lakeshore Drive) in San Fran, it was a bust. OTOH, I can see a pretty universal appeal for Brew imagery...and hey, Columbus does have a big Brewery!
______________

It is also on a google cached version from the 12th, so it looks like it may be gone in Columbus. At least for now.
______________

Sounds Familar

Just from clicking on their website and listening to their into, this sounds a lot like 103.9 when it was the Eagle. And we all know what SUPER numbers that brought in....

Anybody know if they plan on putting on any jocks?

The Eagle said they were '70s and '80s rock hits but they played mostly '70s and their signal was/still is horrible (can't even get it in their parking lot!). The Brew seems WAY more '80s with some '90s (heard Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews and Blues Traveller).

Should be interesting!

I believe sometime around 10pm Saturday night, then they aired the Browns game Sunday. More stunting until today around 12pm.
______________

If that is the case could oldies 107.9 go classic rock and pick up Bob and Tom.

Sounds familar but I am not thinking "Eagle", I am thinking "Fox". When 105.7 first debuted back in 2001 they called themselves "World Class Rock". If you go to www.archive.org and search on 1057thefox.com to look at the first pages they had online, you will find this description on one of the cached pages.

"What is World Class Rock?

World Class Rock is a musical combination unique to Central Ohio. We can't compare it to any other station . . . because 105.7 The Fox is tailor made to the listening habits of Columbus . . . focused on a mix of rock hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today!"

So is The Brew a retread of a concept that failed the first time they tried it in early 2001?

Re: Sounds Familiar

It reminds me somewhat of Arrow from back in the mid-90s, then there are shades of Eagle and even of the Point from Dayton. Was the Fox really failing that badly? IMO, the Fox was as good as it's ever been the past six to nine months in that it was closer to the good classic rock stations (i.e. WTUE and 98.5 from Cleveland) and not the watered down versions we've so often been fed in Columbus.
Also gonna miss Bob & Tom and its extra hour from 10-11.

I agree about the Eagle's "Rockin 80's and 70's". It started out a little broader and more 80's-oriented, but soon evolved to what you describe.

To me the Brew sounds kind of like they took the Fox and
1. Updated the center era by maybe 7 years or so
2. Broadened the sound somewhat to include some poppier Classic-Hits type stuff (e.g. Huey Lewis) and Hair Bands.

While the Brew is definitely playing a broader range of sounds than the most recent version of the Fox, I can't tell yet if their playlist is actually larger than Fox's was. Probably is, but too early to tell. I know it's nowhere as big as Ted's, but again the Brew is just getting started. I do remember that Ted kicked off with a huge list from Day 1, and I didn't hear the repeats I'm already hearing on the Brew.

I kinda like the Brew thus far...and I likewise appreciate the true variety Ted brought to town...BUT this is one of the few times I would have actually PREFERRED to see CC Columbus use one of its move-ins in a brutal head-to-head attack, wiping out Ted and taking local possession of the Variety Hits format with a decent-signalled Bob/Jack/Ted type approach on 105.7. I feel kind of evil wishing this upon my current favorite station (Ted.) But CC has started doing the Variety Hits formats in other markets (e.g. "Louie" in Louisville), and the sad fact is that Ted is going to remain stymied by that awful signal. Now what's likely is that the Brew's current approach (in tandem with the tweaking at 97.1) will hurt Ted enough to kill it, and Columbus will be left with no Variety Hits station at all.
______________

1998-2001 WMMS/Cleveland used the positioner "World Class Rock. Refers to the best of the best. WMMS was a mainstream during that period.
______________

I think the product that The Fox put out the last 6-12 months was very solid and a great Classic Rock. I was referring to their failed attempt at doing "World Class Rock" which was pretty much what they are doing now with the Brew. Their original goal with World Class Rock was a wide variety of the best rock from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. I have heard so far on the Brew, 70's, 80's, 90's but no "today".

I just don't see how the Brew is all that different than the first iteration of "The Fox". They tweaked the playlist a dozen times as the Fox and repositioned probably a half-dozen too. Sometimes going from "World Class Rock" to "Classic Rock and more" to just straight Classic Rock. I think their best days as the Fox were definitely the past 12 months.

This being said, I don't think they will lose a whole lot of current Fox listeners (save the B&T zealots that didn't listen outside that daypart) and they will gain a more varied listener base (pure speculation but it seems to me what they may be shooting for with this playlist)
