105.7 is stunting

Interesting way to stunt. Personally I would have gone with episodes of either Becker or Night Court.
______________

I'm noticing that -- at least so far -- the Columbus version of the Brew is not a musical clone of the original in Milwaukee despite some similarities. So 105.7 might not really have the potential (or intention) of hurting the Blitz (via damage to its older demos) the way WQBW dreally hurt Milwaukee's Active Rocker owned by Saga.

For comparison, here's what WQBW played around noon today:

Fallen Angel
Poison

Once Bitten Twice Shy
Great White

Girls, Girls, Girls
Motley Crue

Working for the Weekend
Loverboy

Tube Snake Boogie
ZZ Top

Legs
ZZ Top

Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Meat Loaf

Let My Love Open the Door
Pete Townshend

High on You
Survivor

Right Now
Van Halen

At one point Milwaukee's Brew called itself "Rock of the 80's". Not sure whether or not that's still true.

Usual disclaimer: I'm comparing to just one hour of WQBW to The Brew at 105.7 is in its infancy stage...105.7 *may* still be tweaking.
______________

Not to pick nits.... but WQBW calls itself the "Rock of 80's and More".

It's also used by legendary AAA KBCO Denver, owned by CC since the late 90's.
______________

Actually, the first iteration of the Fox was in the nineties (about 95-6 as I recall), when 105.7 was still in Marysville. 105.7 had been Arrow and then was acquired by CC and soon changed to a simulcast of K95.5 (then owned by CC) that was lucky when eaked out a 0.3 share, i.e. they threw away Arrow's 2-share -- which wasn't bad for that signal.

After a year of the K 95.5 simulcast debacle 105.7 became the original Fox. It was a Classic Hits format that was somewhat more laid back and upper-demo then any of the recent 105.7 incarnations. I liked it. The original Fox hovered around a 2.0 share (again, not bad for a signal that was even worse than the current 103.9 signal).

Then, CC bought Nationwide and had to sell 98.9 Channel Z to Blue Chip as part of the deal. At that point, they moved Channel Z to 105.7, killing off the original Fox. Concurrent with 105.7's later move-in (to, um, Hilliard) and signal upgade, Channel Z went away and the Fox was reincarnated at 105.7 starting with its World Class Rock approach.

The first Fox started in 1997 and ended less than a year later in 1998 when Channel Z moved. Why they didn't give Z a chance on the new downtown signal still puzzles me. It did very well at 98.9, originally. How many times can you change a frequency's format within 5 years and have _any_ listeners left? Not to mention the number of times The "new" Fox repositioned between 2000 and now.

Wow, that's the first I've heard of the original Fox. Gee do I feel stupid. Of course, I lived out of the area (college) from the fall of '97 to May of 2000, and I remember Channel Z fondly. Also listened to Star quite a bit when I came home, in addition to Q-FM and 97.9.

Oops, thanks for the one-year-off correction.

In addition, it just hit me that saying "CC" was also a mistake for most of the history. Should have been Jacor, before it became part of CC. I forget exactly when CC acquired Jacor, but I wonder if that acquisition had any influence on the decision to drop Channel Z from 105.7 when it moved? Also, perhaps they had seen (or wanted to prevent) Z from chipping away at NCI after NCI became part of the Jacor/CC stable.
______________

Jacor was acquired by CC in late 1998 - mid 1999 if I am not mistaken and Channel Z stuck around until mid-late 2000 when they flipped to The Fox. Channel Z was "CC" for at least a year if memory serves.

Channel Z moved to 105.7 at the Marysville site in August 1998 because of the buyout. 98.9 was sold to Blue Chip, now Radio One. Z was on 105.7 until June 2000, days before the signal was moved downtown and it changed to the "World Class Rock" version of The Fox.
