MAGIC 105's TURKEY DROP '06.....BE THERE!

This Thursday November 16 Magic 105 will distribute 105 Holiday turkeys
out of a flying helicopter. Other prizes and hundreds of dollars to be
"caught" as well. It happens at The Underground Pub and the FREE tukeys drop at
5:20p sharp. It was an awesome spectacle last year and it'll be even better
this year.

Get more info at www.magic105fm.com

Yes it is a tribute to the WKRP Turkey Drop.....with a twist.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! ;D

This stunt MIGHT help get 105 above a 2.5 share. Then again, maybe
a format flip would.

I don't know whow you are Keef but come off like a jerk! Stay home loser!

Dude, I'm just telling the truth... the clock MUST
be ticking on 105... how much longer will Clear
Channel let the station languish in 20th place?
I bet ''Jack'' or ''Movin'' is on 105 by the spring.

"As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly..."

I actually have taped marked out the floor in engineering where the door should be to my office. Next week, I move the tape line and annex the refridgerator!

By the way, how can Jack come in to this market? That's an Infinity, Whoops! I mean CBS Radio royalty. Last time I checked Arkansas was void of any CBS stations other than maybe a news affliate.

The 'Jack' format is being done all over the country by non-CBS stations. Nothing against the folks at 105, but the station has not done well in a long time. I'm bettin' a 'Jack' sort of format, or 'Movin', will be on that frequency in pretty short order. How many more times can a station
play 'Gimme Three Steps'?

I preface this by saying that I do not nor have I ever had any affiliation with any Little Rock radio broadcasters or their parent companies. That said, how Magic 105 could possibly trail KKPT in the ratings is beyond belief.
The playlist on the Point is so short and so stale that even their jocks sound disinterested and bored when they play "More Than A Feeling" and "Stairway to Heaven" every day. Also, their audio sounds flat whereas Magic sounds better. If CC would put a little more live and local into Magic instead of so much voicetracking and syndicated shows it would have to help the numbers. It just sounds bad when you have the same person voicetracking in both Little Rock and Fayetteville.

As far as their 105 Turkey event, give them credit for doing something that everyone else isn't doing.

Sharpe you are the godfather too all things big dumb and fun...how the hell are you?

KKPT also speeds their music up. They have too much audio processing and it's fatiguing to listen to for long periods. 105 does not sound local whatsoever, which surely has lead to their undoing in the ratings. Bob and Tom....a great show but they're Yankees and obviously piped in. When the time comes to flip 105 to some other format, will Clear Channel yank out all the stops and throw on a local, live staff? Let's see....Big Dave,
Carole Kramer, Pat Lynch, Danny Joe Crawford, Paula Cooper and Julie Mayberry.

KLAZ needs to do something about their format too, half the songs they play isn't Top 40, most of it is JACK music

Word has it, some really good changes are coming to KLAZ

In the past few weeks I've heard KLAZ. It's starting to sound more like top 40.
Give the MD time to adjust to the new changes. Although I do Agree, it used to sound like Jack.I hear they have a new GM from Little Rock. I think he will Steer KLAZ in the upwards direction. If you have not heard KLAZ in the past few months ,Try it again.......

I find it so amazing how when a radio station stumbles some will jump ship and write them off. With all due respect, I can see where Keef is coming from (apologies), but think of it like sports....just because the score isn't in ones favor does that stop the fans from buying the merchandise? Sometimes YES but as long as there is loyalty and advertisers that believe in results and not ratings, a low ranked station will be fine. Trust me when I say that any of the TOP stations will brag about their RATINGS, but when they are down, ask them how legit ratings really are??? They'll say "Oh that's not a real example of who's listening! We have way more listeners than that." Also it's a whole lot easier to get to the TOP than it is to stay there.
With very few exceptions. So what are ratings for? Petty bragging is all.

I would like to thanks those that found positive things to say about what we're doing at 105! And trust me when I say, no matter what people think of me and Tom we are not going to let 105 go without a fight! BELIEVE THIS....I am proud to be associated with THE GREATEST ROCK STATION TO EVER BE ON THE AIR IN ARKANSAS! MAGIC 105!!

Peace!

Didn't we have this exact same discussion last year about this time...starting with the turkey thing?

I'm old and drink too much. My memory is not as good as yours, but I think you are right.

Happy holidays to all!

Look out! Here comes Mardi Gras!

Clear Channel corporate is only interested in whether you're hitting THE NUMBER. As in, are you able to command a premium ad rate? With a 2.5 share, a station like Magic is NOT hitting that number. Sharpe and Tom are good people, but Clear Channel does not care about good people. They care about dollars. Magic has a great signal but miserable ratings. The clock IS ticking. Magic's days are numbered. Whatever heritage a station may have doesn't matter if the station is now broken. Magic is broken.

Nope. THE NUMBER is simply ad revenue. Any station can be in the tank ratings wise, but if they pay the bills and make some dollars then it's a sucessful business. When I was working in LR many years ago, Magic wasn't on top of the ratings then either, but everyone in central Arkansas knew the station and staff, and they had a very loyal audience. I suspect that's still the case.

And Sharpe, I'm old, too but I quite drinking years ago, so I still remember. Magic's demise was predicted last year as well. I hope you guys carry on. 105 was one of the few stations over there I didn't engineer...

Nope. The station at 105.1 is capable of much more than a 2.5 share. They've been parked in the cellar for
a long time. The 2.5 isn't an anomaly. Mix 94.9 pulled 2's and 3's and it's gone. Q100 had lousy ratings and they're gone. Clear Channel will blow 105 and start over. There's no excuse for having a good signal pulling in a 2.5 share. The station at 105.1 is capable of better....it's just that the format isn't.

No, try again. You didn't read my post. It's the revenue, not the numbers and they aren't always related. Just ask the millionaire owner of some of these religious stations with a 0.3 share. Don't know if that's the case with 105, but it certainly happens.
