106.1 K-Breeze: A Foul Wind Blowin'

....and why do people keep asking or wishing when it will go to one of the big sticks?

Same reason there's a thread discussing classic hits not being in Houston. KCYB-LP plays good music, the stuff we long to hear on the radio, but can't...unless we're driving through a small section of NW Harris County...

From two credible sources I have heard that when 106 wins their move to Missouri City, the frequency will be used to launch the new BOP RADIO 1 channel. Can anyone on the inside confirm?

That's not what they told me.

Hell, BOP cant keep their current streams active...try them and see what you get...oh wait, another "guest" member...ROFLMAO.....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!

CW, refresh my memory on how this 106.1 can be allowed to potentially overlap KIOC. Is this like the 97.1 attempted translator in Beaumont, but to a lesser degree? Does anyone at the fcc even look at these applications or do they just rubber stamp them?

I don't know what is up with KIOC. 30 years ago, they were like a local all over Houston. Very good signal. With a very modest antenna, they were listenable in Austin and even came through in the car. I move back here 6 years ago, they are GONE. Not receivable at all. Other stations on the frequency. So - if they made some change to their transmission stream, they aren't going to care about a LP or translator in Houston, because they long since gave up the Houston market for some reason.

Does not even come close to KIOC's 60dBu contour, which has its transmitter on the old KPAC/KJAC TV4 tower in Vidor (has been there since 1978)...and KIOC has been downgraded to a C0 because of a 106.1 that signed on in Alexandria, LA who forced the downgrade from a C....but Cheap Channel (then anyway...now iHeart) HAD said they would build a tower to keep the C status...and then did not....so the downgrade went through...though nothing actually changed at the station....same antenna, feedline, etc...

KIOC never cared about the Houston market...it is NOT a Houston station and never tried to be.

KIOC used to visit the Houston area quite frequently until then KWHI upgraded to KTTX (KWHI is now on 1280) and moved into the 106.1 frequency from 106.3..........

I haven't seen it posted here not sure if anyone knows but K-Breeze popped up on KMJQ 102.1 HD3 just before Christmas playing Christmas music. Still on now

Yeah, Rage. Well aware of this. If you read a little ways back in this thread, I mentioned it was coming. All the complaints I filed, along with Steve Lee's notice of violation, made them scramble to get it legal so they could continue to produce their original programming with commercials. Next step: move to senior road tower at 1800 feet! Gonna mount a single bay right under the one for 95.1...

I sure won't be the one going up there! See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5pkXq3zMf0

Good luck to them.

As for the video, sad times right there. :(

oh hell no! You couldn't pay me enough to climb one of those towers. I'd make it about a quarter way up and say NOPE... XD

Keep in mind that translators aren't subject to all of the rules that full power stations are. They just need to provide proof that they won't likely cause interference to existing full power stations (and possibly LPFM's). If a full power station complains of interference, the translator, as a secondary service, must either eliminate that interference or shut down until it can.

Not correct...a translator's 1mV contour cannot touch another station's 1mV contour regardless of class....KIOC, though, never has made it close to Houston and never will...whereas KTHT does throw 1mV contour over Beaumont but the 97.1 translator issue in Beaumont was that, though predictions showed the two 1mV contours would not touch, it was not what was going to happen in real life...the 97.1 xlator in Beaumont has filed for 107.7 ....and as of Jan 7, the CP was granted....for a 1watt signal!!! Yeah that will cover far...not!! AND NOW they are claiming to rebroadcast 107.9!!! So I guess they had a falling out with Martin though the 990kHz 500 ft tower is the proposed site!!! This is sooo wrong in soo many ways.

A translator at 107.7 for a station at 107.9 that is licensed to Beaumont and can already be heard here. That's insane.

Stan... at 1 watt in the middle of nowhere its obvious they are doing the bare minimum to keep the license active. The FCC isn't taking new translator licenses apps these days, so the license itself has value. If someone comes along witj the right money, they can buy it... and then apply to move to a new tower, change frequency, up tp 250 watts, etc. Again, another example of the radio stick chess game...

Within the city grade contour of 107.9 it can be licensed as a fill in and be legal....HOWEVER, I bet Liberman has no agreement with them...time to call Mike, the CE there, and ask him...
