106.5 THE BUZZ

Someone told me once that he would rather operated a All Sports station with a 0.9 rating than a Adult Standards station with a 5.3 rating, even if it is in the Top 5, because he could make more money with Sports than Adult Standards. Don't know if this is true or not?

That's because the 55+ demo is considered virtually worthless to agency buyers.

What about KCTC's 0.4? C'mon....0.4! Its hard to imagine their revenue is higher now than with the Standards format.

Here we go again... a .4 (6+) with a sports format is more salable than a Nostalgia station with a three share that's all 55+. Unless you can get enough buys from local advertisers there is virtually no money for Nostalgia/ Adult Standards format. If they could make more money with Nostalgia, they would do it.

Agencies could care less about 55+, because that demo is not influenced by advertising as much. They will hardly switch to Pepsi just because they heard some clever ad.

Sports sells....

25-54 is a money demo.... 55+ is not.

Why do you think beautiful music stations died while still being in the top 5 12+?

For the record, I'm not a sports nut.

I do miss the Nostalgia stations...

Tell me about it, brother. I grew up in the 70s, and my parents had KJAX ("Cloud 99") rockin' the house 24/7. Burt Bacharach....Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass....Elevator versions of Beatles standards that I didn't even know were Beatles songs until ten years later....Ahhh, good times.

If you were entercom, will you move 106.5 THE BUZZ to 94.7 frequency and adjust the format to more of HOT-AC and move 94.7 FM format to 106.5 and call it 106.5 KWOD and adjust the format to sound more of Modern Rock instead of Classic Alternative? What do you think? Forget Smooth Jazz since the format is dying and the target age demo isn't advertiser friendly.

KWOD's final book, Winter 09 was a 2.7 12+. It was in the top 5 persons 18-34.

And a 1.5 is dogshit. The sad part is that Entercom's incompetence in this will scare away other operators from the format, although an alt that sounded like KWOD in 2000-2002, that leaned very heavy, would take 40% of KRXQ's numbers inside of 6 weeks.

i still want to know what book you are looking at? i know for a fact KWOD never was top 5 12 + thats a crock.. i know for a FACT middays kwod was consistently 2nd to last place 18+
where do you get this 2.7? highest i ever saw for KWOD 12 + was a 2.2 and that didnt happen consistently... only numbers KWOD ever got was for adam corolla, and possbly rubin.. but still was never as high as a 2.7 ... i think youre smokin some crack don... or should i say sims?

If you review the post, it says "top 5 persons 18-34", not 12+.

Also, on further contemplation, would you like to refine your statement that KWOD NEVER had higher than a 2.2 12+ in it's history?

ok my mistake... but kwod still never made it to top 5. id like to see the book hes lookin at, all the ones i have seen dont have kwod anywhere near top 5... as far as history, yeah they did well back in the day im sure.. but for the 4 years ive been paying attention, it hasnt happened.. so maybe before 2006 there was a top 5 book, definitley wasnt their last one...

That's kind of the ENTIRE POINT! KWOD was a successful and viable station before the Entercom purchase. In the late 90s and early 2000s when it was competing with KRXQ, KWOD was much more successful than you're giving them credit for. It wasn't until Entercom took over, neutered it musically and promotionally by not allowing it to compete head-to-head with KRXQ, and canned most of the staff that the station began to sink in the ratings. To say nothing of the damage they did with the KWOD 2.0 fiasco. So to say a station was never successful simply because they haven't been successful during your limited attention span is completely asinine and a good way to lose whatever scrap of credibility you might have. Nicely done.

but mr don v stated that kwod was top 5 in its last book. they were 18th in all demos, except for 18-35 men. (ok you had one. ( most likely due to adam carolla) numbers were still weak though.

if you wanna believe that you were doing so well, go ahead, what ever makes you feel better about your terrible performance.

KWOD is gone for a reason. no one was listening.
and yes mr sims , er i mean donnie v, i can read. i just couldnt believe someone was living in such a fantasy that kwod was doing well....
if it were doing well, it would still be here and you'd still have a job. however a decent programmer would have canned your ass and put someone on that people would listen to. just sayin. you were 2nd to last in yourdaypart.
