106.7: What do you want it to be?

Okay.. so we got 106.7 coming in with a new channel in a few weeks. If you could decide the format, what would you choose? I would choose a CHR/Rhythmic (#1 For R&B, Hip-Hop, & Old School)-- a duplicate of KPAT in Santa Maria, CA

WBVT-A Bobby Vinton Tribute station playing Melody of love 24/7

My honest opinion is FM106-7 kinda like an Alternative Rock similar to 104 in Hartford.

Seriously.....

I think the past several books that WCKX did show well probably has at least made CC look at some type of Urban product. Can't say that CC normally does urban well, but considering that CKX has consistently been in the top two arb slots, I can see some format move to get rid of that format. Also a high power urban could hurt NCI.

So I can't see CC putting an urban in this market on 106.7...although the positioning works... I suspect brew to move to 106.7, and 105.5?? or whatever they are to now become chocolate flavored, soon

Top 40/CHR with persoinality, upbeat music ... more dance and pop, and less whiny alternative and ghetto "music" for the brothers.

Whatever happens, they dont want to hurt their cash cow - err - I mean WNCI. Its one of the few Top 40 stations in the country that remains the top biller in the market.

CKX does well in the ratings and gets a lot of national revenue, but the money isnt there where it should be.

I assume that they are going to try something that can help make them "mean green" and not only that Bain also happens to be in it for the money, not the ratings.

Also I say the word "Green". Last time I was at West Fifth, the studio was a pukey yellow and green where they are locating 106.7. So something tells me that it wont be an abrassive format whatever it will be. I know, colors can be changed, but I have a feeling they've had something in mind for a while.

The question wasn't "What is the format going to be?" The question was "What do you want it to be?"

Green?

The only association where Green and Clear Channel go hand in hand in a favorable way is in San Francisco where they changed "The Quake" to "Green 960."

But unlike here and in many other markets, the format didn't change. It's still a progressive talk station.

Personally, I will make nothing of the green studio unless I hear during my podcasting in the next two weeks:

1. Ed Schultz going one-on-one with Jim Tressel, Earle Bruce, John Cooper or a combination of the three during Michigan Week...

AND...

2. Stephanie Miller and CC Goldwater announce an open casting call for Goldwater Boys in the Columbus area.

Call my comments "pure fantasy" if you like. Being around hot Goldwater Boys would surely fulfill one of mine. That's while the rest of the guys reading this are fond of Steph's choice of underwear.

A format that would truly work if executed correctly in Columbus, and CC would be the company to do it....

TRIPLE A

Well, instead of another country station, or sport/talk/news radio, how about something completely different.

Ambient, Trance - Playing artists like Andreas Vollenweider, Kitaro and Yanni

Maybe not the best music to listen to on a long drive if you tired. ;)

I would personally love to see something in the Triple A/Americana format...or something with some truly edgy rock...which would require The Brew to actually pick a true format (80s rock or Real.Fun.Rock with a dash of Tears for Fears mixed in).

What it will probably end up being is something Rhythmic/CHR, to take it to Power and to shield WNCI.

I was talking to a former PD/MD/GM of Power 106.3 (Joe Woodford) about MOViN coming to Columbus. He didn't comment. It's hard to see a Rhythmic AC come to the city. However, I think it would work. CC could bring The Party or My106.7 and succeed. It can steal from Sunny & Mix. Will it happen? Doubtful. Urban is the best guess. That won't hurt.

I would like to see some variety as well, but I agree it will be something that rivals a station in the top 5-6 of the Arbitron, like Power, Joy or QFM96. Maybe it could be AOR, as QFM is more classic rock nowadays, anyway.
