106.9 Changing things up?

According to their facebook page today and i quote "at 5pm today we're doing something completely different. We are keeping a promise to you to play what YOU have been asking for. Tune in..." And then before that they said this "to the fans of INXS, Sheryl Crow, B-52's and The Pretenders...enjoy them while you can, they are about to be, well, not around hear no more."

I'm anxious to see what is going to happen if anything much at all.

can you say re-launch???
It looks like blocks of Nine Inch Nails and now its Stone Temple Pilots.

going a little harder, gonna evolve into active rock? hmm...so much for an attempt at Point-like classic alternative.

I was just about to ask what did all of you think about the new station? Because i have seen their recent ratings and the new format... looks like it's not doing much.

I was wondering what was going on. Now, if they'll just take away "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something and that darn "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain. Heard "I Stay Away" by Alice In Chains yesterday, which blew me away. I was beginning to think that "Man In The Box" was the only song from AIC that they knew about.

I really like it, and I'm pretty sure this is going to be the first successful format for 106.9 in a long time. Has anyone noticed that The Buzz has dipped into the archives recently? Heard Candlebox yesterday, which I haven't heard on The Buzz in a long while.

...and thank you to whoever changed Republica's "Ready To Go" from the dance mix to the original version of the song. Much better.

Since Depeche Mode, The Cure, and Fixx are part of the playlist, could someone find it in their heart to add Information Society to the rotation? One of my favorite songs from them was "Think" and The Point would never play it. Hopefully, The Zone will find it in their heart to make this 40 something complete.

They're still playing Depeche Mode, The Cure and The Fixx? BTW I've been hearing Candlebox played on The Buzz since I can remember. I don't think they ever stopped or even eased up on "Far Behind".

Depeche Mode and The Cure, yes. I'm not sure about The Fixx, but I haven't heard "Red Skies" since Sunday. Probably gone, as there is a lot more grunge on 106.9 now, which to me isn't a bad thing.

I know there is no benefit to Cox by doing this, but the one thing I'd like to see is The Zone and The Eagle switch frequencies. Seeing as how The Buzz started off on 107.5, it'd be kind of neat to see The Buzz and The Zone go head to head at the new and old frequencies.

Well, that depends on where you are. I get 106.9 better than 107.5, but I am north of the Beltway. Now if we're talking technically, KHPT runs 91.6kW at a height of just over 1,800 feet. KGLK operates at 95kW at almost 2,000 feet. KGLK does cover more surface area than KHPT does in that regard, However, KGLK's signal covers a lot of open water in the Gulf whereas KHPT's local coverage area is completely over land. Development keeps reaching further and further north up I-45 so KHPT could potentially service millions more people in the future than it does now, while KGLK doesn't share the same potential for the levels of population growth in its main service area.

I guess I can go with the fact that KGLK was once before classic rock as KZFX and 93.7 did have some effect on Z-107's demise, so my nostalgic side can be satisfied. I just think it would be neat if Cox and The Zone could beat The Buzz with the very signal that Clear Channel's Buzz abandoned for the stronger citygrade 94.5 some 10 years ago.

Since the station has moved away from the Alternative club music, I'll take back my request for Info. Society, but I've got to ask how they could forget about adding Limp Bizkit to the playlist. Not even one song, and let me tell you, I blame it all on the nookie.

I always assumed that the 80's songs were temporary.

They seem to play a more (the most?) censored version of Everlast's "What It's Like" - the one with weird chicken noises dubbed over any possibly objectionable word, including the word "drugs". I've heard another version (probably on KTBZ) that lets more words through and only silences out the actual expletives.

It also bleeps out "colt 45"... WTF

That's the radio edit.

I know of stations that did their own edits that let more words through, but the original radio edit that the label released was really conservative. Kind of like the Bloodhound Gang editing out "nuts" from The Bad touch.

I wonder if they read this forum. Heard a new version today of "What It's Like" that un-bleeps "drugs" and "colt 45". The other bleeps still have the chicken noises. Still, a logical improvement considering the lyrical content of the other songs they play.

They're still having problems though. Just got another silence blip on the boombox, and earlier in the car I got a blip of static (as if the transmitter cut out for half a second). RDS still works, and it sounded great in the car, but they really need to get this stuff worked out.

Too much static for me on 106.9 and I listen to 1560 day and night without much static in my F150...

Not sure though, it may just be the La Porte area.

I'm beginning to think that Pearl Jam is the new Led Zeppelin when it comes to radio plays.. Along with Nirvana the new Lynyrd Skynyrd.. It seems like every 3rd song is by one of these 2 groups..

Would be cool to see that but isn't 106.9 a much better signal?

I dunno, it may just be the area I am in, but when I play FM stations on my home audiophile-grade stereo, 106.9 just doesn't sound as good as the other area FM stations, it lacks bass and depth. I'm in League City, if that matters, and am not using much of an antenna. 107.5 and 93.7 seem to have much better sound quality. That being said, I like the new format change, especially the Irish chick, man, "The Point", I am amazed that boring thing lasted so long, and am glad it died!
