FWIW, last night or this morning as I slept, I dreamt that 106.9 FM had, after a period of stunting (with Christmas music, I think), flipped to a Christian music format from 1980s music.
Of course, with dreams, they could be predictive, or merely for entertainment or wish-fulfillment (although in this case, I certainly have no wish for 106.9 to flip to Christian, although the change would certainly be interesting in the short run). So, in the context of this board, a dream is easily dismissed, at least without more, er, this-worldly information to back it up.
On the other hand, the subject of 106.9 has had its share of discussion on this board, with some making comments along the lines of, "stick a fork in it (106.9's current format), it's done." And some had speculated that Cox would do in Houston what it had done with a station in Tulsa, Okla., and flip 106.9 to Christian music. On the other hand, non-commercial KSBJ could be a formidable competitor to such a new format.
So, discussion, anyone?
(Or maybe the 106.9 question has been about as thoroughly hashed-out as the issue that periodically comes up on the Boston board as to whether 101.7 FM, WFNX, will ever flip from alternative? Some feel that might make a good Spanish station, but the consensus seems to be that it will never happen while it's owned by the current owner, who uses the station in conjunction with his alternative weekly paper the Boston Phoenix... Anyway, I digress ... I did think the 106.9 question might merit further discussion...)
Here's another angle or two. What formats, besides Christian, might be good alternatives to '80s? And could Cox somehow tweak and therefore "breathe new life" into its '80s format on 106.9 without a more dramatic format flip?
