1060 WIXC - Changes

Paperbill. what do you think BAM's next plan of attack will be. You obviously have a firm grip on what is going on. Can we expect the same ole or is there going to be changes for the better? What is his bottom dollar asking price just out of curiosity?

Spanky, blaming the GM at WIXC is absurd, Bruce Almighty makes all the decisions, and once in a while has
the courtesy to let the GM, staff etc know what he is doing. He signs off early to save money, he runs the
station at reduced power to save money...best thing he could do for the radio industry is --sell the station!
Unless of course, he plans to simulcast his Lacrosse games into Brevard.

You are right. I was on my ranting spell. I feel bad for those who lost there jobs in the "starting over" idea. Frankly, the station was headed in the right direction and it is a shame that BM must clean house to start over. A lot of good people have been through the door at 1060 only to lose their jobs a few months later. The station was much better back in the Sego, Sr ownership days. The micro-management that goes on there now is upsetting.

There is no GM. BAM has let everyone (Sales and GM) go and is "starting over"

How many times can you start over? Until you stop starting over, I guess. It seems BM will blame everyone but himself for the fact that WIXC is a POS station. Sorry, but that's how I feel given the chaos since ESPN was dropped. He won't leave the darned thing alone long enough to attract an audience. He seems to believe that attracting an audience is immaterial to his success. Doesn't he realize that's all he has to offer? Nobody in Brevard County is going to pay much attention to WIXC for a very long time now and the sad part is that it didn't have to be that way. There was a way it could have been a killer station by now.

BM is the worst radio operator in the area! He needs to find another line of work and get out of the radio business. My guess is that he is bi polar.

No, no, BM is a modern radio genius...it takes great skill to have stations as consistant as his, why WWBA, even with it's new frequency is a constant
point .7 or .8 ...constant near the bottom for years, even with some pretty good talent. His other Tampa stations are constant, unheard of and unrated
almost every book...
Now, his Orlando station is at the forefront of what has to be the hottest thing in in radio...Lacrosse! Yes, Bruce Almight could be the next Cousin
Brucie, doing for Lacross what Cousin Brucie did for Rock N Roll ...and lest we forget, his hearing the cry from Orlando, to bring ESPN in Spanish...folks,
this is a winner from the start, we could be talking a .1 or even a 1.0 here...Then, there is WIXC...the mighty 50,000 oops, 10,000watt Flamethrower,
oh, sorry, the 3, 4 or who knows how many watt BIC lighter...The worst radio operator in the area...I think not ... Not when he is Bruce Almighty!

[quote Now, his Orlando station is at the forefront of what has to be the hottest thing in in radio...Lacrosse!

Wait, will Lacrosse be in spanish? The sad thing is he hurts the industry by his stupid moves.

I'm not a psychiatrist, but there's definitely something going on in there that isn't quite right. Normal operators don't leave the landscape littered with the carcasses of folks they've chewed up and spit out. I don't know of a single operator that has generated more bad will among people who have had contact with him. Truth or lie doesn't seem to matter. What was said to you yesterday doesn't matter today. That sort of thing. Remember "Bubble Boy"? He was the poor fellow who had to live in a bubble isolated from the rest of the world. There are some who walk around in their own psychological bubble, not connected to others. All the while exhibiting incredible arrogance. It's the arrogance that is the amazing thing.

Oh and by the way someone on this blog once accused me of being BM...HAHA he couldn't shine my shoes....

Aren't you Bill Bokunic?

RP, you really have nailed.

Yeah, I just called the sales office. No answer, just voice mail. So I pressed "1" to get to Katie Bulkunic and it went back to the main menu. "2" for Rod and it goes back to the main menu. "3" for Paul and it goes back to the main menu. So, if I wanted to buy some advertising from Brevard's Big Talker how would I do it? Knock on the Mims studio door and slip Greg a couple of bucks in a brown envelope?

Sorry, PB, I should never have accused you of being BM. That was very unchristian of me. My heart goes out to you. Good luck putting together a team to buy that pile of... what ever it is. That is you, isn't it?

This Thread is Impressive

You know, WIXC does generate a lot of interest. This thread seems to be the most read thread in the history of the Orlando forum. Is that a reflection of the station's potential, or the oddity of its situation, or what? It's fascinating to say the least.

CZ, I owe you an apology for all the comments in the past. I am not interested in buying that station. I understand that there was a very substantial offer on the table that BAM turned down. His intentions are so transparent....He wants someone to LMA the station for a year or 2 with a huge 1.2million Balloon paymet at the end. Knowing full well that most won't get the financing...He will have someone build his station for 2 years and then he can grab it back.

I tried to hire his recently displaced Sales/GM and he won't release out of the Non-compete, gave no severance...etc. Had he showed that simple grace....but no...so, all I can say is the gloves are off now!

That game was already played on Ted Turner, but from what I understand, his investors bailed on him when they got wind of what was up before too much money had been burned. Fortunately for them, they kept Ted on a tight leash as far as the finances. Only a fool would get into another LMA for WIXC.

By the way, you should have that "displaced Sales/GM" check that non-compete with a lawyer. There is a very stong likelihood that it is not enforcable in Florida. Most are not. It is a cowardly intimidation technique used by weak business people who are driven by fear and animus.

If Genesis is still paying this person then the non-compete may be enforcable, but that notion is laughable.

I would also suggest that the non-compete agreement be reviewed by an attorney. Depending on the length of service to WIXC and the fact that no severence was paid, there may be grounds to break the non-compete. As a matter of policy, I have always refused to sign a non-compete due to he fact, as I had stated to one former GM I once worked for,

"If I sign the non-compete but I have no employement contract, what's to stop you from firing me tomorrow and I'm out of the radio business in this market for the next two years? I won't sign".

I've lost some jobs by refusing to sign, but other GMs have backed down and hired me without the non-compete. It can't hurt anything and may be worth the while of the person in question to consult with an attorney on the matter.

I agree with you, Mark. I wouldn't sign a non-compete either. I'd like to see the former Genesis employee be released from that restriction and be allowed to work wherever they choose.

I actually liked WIXC dsuring the short Ted Turner era. There IS an audience for classic country. My Internet-only country station launches 500-plus streams every day.
