1060 WIXC - Changes

Paperbill said:
The Hitkicker will not fall apart with Denny Stone Leaving....nor will a county classic AM station ever give serious competition to a 50,000 FM today's county station.

As far as WIXIE, Ted Turner was released over a wek ago, no rumor there

This just sounds like a bitter employee in the SALES DEPARTMENT at Cume-u-less!

Anyone actually listened to WIXC this week? It is horrid! They had a professional sounding station, and now it sounds like amateur hour. They cut off songs right in the middle to play the news at the top of the hours. Lot's of goofy stuff. They play back-to-back-to-back female artists, crazy stuff for the format.

Yes, Ted Turner seems to be gone as he isn't on the air. My guess is that he's no longer programming the station either. If they can't straighten out the station they really should change the format to something that doesn't require much in the way of programming. They can't get ESPN back because WINT picked that up. What ever happened to Ted, his leaving sure hasn't helped the station, that's for sure. It's a real shame since they were sounding as good as any FM for a while there.

Maybe there's polka music in the future for Wixie?

Just because Ted isn't on the air doesn't mean he's gone.... but I'll check with some friends and see if they know what's going on.

I tuned in today and heard country music. Maybe instead of "classic country" they are now playing "country oldies", eh? Still sounds bad, though.

I spoke with someone who works for Genesis and was told they plan to keep the classic country format. That may just be corporate speak though. Time will tell.

There'a always room for another talk station if it is done correctly., e.g., local, local, local... If it's national, syndicated talk with no or very little local news, then I would agree and say there's no room for a third talk station. The key is local radio with a strict focus on the local community which includes news, commentary, community affairs, and listener/caller driven. Additionally, the station actually has to take the time to get actively involved in the community - VISABILITY - BEING SEEN and supporting LOCAL events!!!

If you take the above and mix it together, then you have a recipe for a successful radio station.

Local, Local, Local tlak is expensive...Combine the lease payments to Genesis (if someone leases it from them) and the electricity bill among other things, and I don't think you could do an entirely local talk station.

You are absolutely correct. It IS expensive. Anything worth while is expensive. You're talking about starting from scratch with a new format, new imaging and essentially a new identity. That will cost money regardless of what is done. Do it right the first time, and it will cost LESS money overall and long term. Once the station is established as a local radio station, the business community will eventually begin to resoond positively by parting with $$$ in the form of local sponsorships. IT doesn't have to be 100% local from the start, but it absolutely HAS to be local during AM and PM drive, and it would be a tremendous advantage to program locally during middays. With the exception of local high school football coverage, nights can be filled with national sports in the beginning. Doing it this way doesn't cost the proverbial "arm and leg", but, you are correct in that it will cost some money. There is no free lunch.

i am keeping an hear on both these boreds and 1060 whenever it comes in here it altamonte. i sometimes can get it here but not that often. i will keep listening.

I tuned in this weekend and it is possibly the worst sounding station on radio right now. It's like a horse with a broken leg - they need to shoot it and put it out of its misery.

Uhm... they'd better do something quickly, because they are losing more audience every day. Their next book will be worse than when they had ESPN, which was horrible for four years. They sounded as good as any FM station around and now they've blown it. Amazing.
