I do wish YOU good luck. It is a gig, and a paycheck (as long as they still are coming and actually clear...)

Just finished realigning the microwave dishes… Game on!

What's the format? Are you streaming? I'd love to listen.

If memory serves ESPN is already in that market. Are they doing WEEI or sporting news? Did they strike a deal with CBS' Hub in Boston? I see that LouieManno is onsite and Corm and the Coach are not coming back. Will they do anything live? Cover anything local? Larger Endeavor? Satellite dishes? Trying to read the tea leaves without hearing it.

Fox Sports is already on 960 "The Zone" / WEAV. Sporting News Radio is a 'me too', and doesn't hold it's own against ESPN and Fox Sports Radio. WEEI could be a better way to go, whatever audience it attracts, they will be the most loyal souls, and the product overall is great ! Not sure what the WEEI franchise fee is going for these days.. My two cents.. Good luck with your venture.

too much, Blueberry tried and couldn't pay up

Fox Sports is horrid; you can have 'em. I remember when I was a nighthawk, 'ZON had SNR overnight (and for a while, Papa Joe in the early evening). Great stuff.

At any rate, good luck, Louie.

Yes, there is a contingent of New York fans in the market for obvious reasons. But the fact of the matter is that the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins are the only teams whose entire schedule is on Burlington cable television. I don't care about listeners on the New York side...the money is in Burlington. Hell, Plattsburgh wasn't in any market 10 years ago.

I can see where 107.1 wouldn't pay six figures for WEEI without having either the Sox or Celtics contracts...but this is something that WJOY should consider.

Not if you have NHL Centre Ice or Extra Innings . . .

In another thread I tossed out some names for a Burlington all-star list and several were sportscasters or did PBP on the side.

Perhaps some of you will remember the days of UVM football. It was BIG for a small city like Burlington. I remember games at Centennial Field (before it became soccer only) where all three Burlington stations would be doing the game live. (WIRY must have loved it!). There would be Tony Adams doing the game for WVMT, Tom Cheek from WDOT, and Frank and Dean from WJOY. Plus, there would be a radio station for the visiting team. All in that small press box. I was just a kid but even then that seemed weird. What if someone wanted to hear music?

Obviously there were enough advertisers to support three accounts of the same small college football game. (I remember Texaco sponsoring one station's coverage--I'm thinking WJOY) I suspect then as it would be now that kind of overkill.

UVM has enjoyed national prominence in basketball, hockey, skiing, and soccer. The Catamounts have a great athletic program and enjoy great local support. The time has come to bring back football at UVM. I have heard all the arguments why UVM wouldn't or shouldn’t bring back football, but as someone who has traversed the country (more than once) I must tell you Burlington can never be a real sports town without football. Louis Manno: I bet you with your 107.1 you would love to have Catamount football to sell.

Although I ‘m a Norwich grad I still love UVM. I would fly back there for that special Saturday some September when they unveil a 20,000 seat sunken stadium packed to overflowing, and after the politicians all gather at the 50 yard line to take their bows, the green and gold with a cat on their helmets pour out of the tunnel to a roar never heard before in Burlington.

There won’t be a dry eye in the place.

I still see the "UNDEFEATED SINCE 1974" shirts from time to time.

BU dropped its program 15 years ago, and Northeastern's team has gone away as well. If football can't survive at private schools in Boston, there's no hope for it at UVM.

Can't compare the two situations, Will.

BU and Northeastern are Urban schools with out the Quad and everything that goes with a real campus. That's why many urban colleges fail to draw (or even win) at football.

Look at UNH and Maine they have had some nice success with football. If you can recruit to Orono you can recruit to Burlington.

In college football towns Saturdays are great fun. Hotels, bars and restaurants fill-up and the town turnsout.

Oh yeah, that's right we need to keep the hotel rooms avaiable for leaf-peepers.

Forget it.
