107.3 flipping right now!?

I am tuned into 107.3 as of 1:40 am, 12/28/09, and the HD1/analog just has a clock ticking sound constantly, which I think I recognize as the ticking effect at the beginning and end of the song "Time Bomb" by Lake (1977). The HD2 is playing the "smooth tunes" now.

I was hoping to aircheck a TOH ID, but no ID given as of 2:06 am, is that legal, even though it seems 107.3 is obviously in a transition stage. Just still ticking away.

Edit: at 2:17 am, HD2 ran an ID liner "You're listening to Cleveland After Dark, on WNWV, Elyria Cleveland". No mention this is now on HD2. HD1/analog, still tickin'.

They did at 2:10AM... it probably was backed up due to the last smooth jazz song played, David Sanborn's "Blue Beach," ended at 12:10AM.

ELBC decided to hurry up the switch to "Boom!" one week, and will presumably launch either today or tomorrow. idk if it will temporarily be jock-less until the original launch date of January 4th, or if Mike Kessler will crack open the mic at 5:30AM. Either way, Mark Ribbins will be the exclusive DJ for WNWV-HD2 starting today.

I failed to specify I was trying to aircheck the HD1. It was too late to edit my post. I edited my 2nd post that I caught an HD2 ID at 2:17 am.

Thanks for the info, I look forward to hearing the new format. I don't think I can stay awake till 5:30 am if they do start the AAA format then. Sorry people, but the smooth jazz just puts me to sleep. Guess the ticking on HD1 is the prelude to the big BOOM coming!

According to an email I just got from John Gorman, the music starts at noon.

yes it's just "sleepy" smooth jazz, but that was a tremendously lame way to send off a 22-year run of a format, no? no tribute, no goodbyes, no messages telling listeners to go to the HD2, absolutely NOTHING, just automation into a stunt. if it was any other format getting that kind of treatment people would be up in arms. total disrespect to a longtime listener base.

the way ELBC has brushed aside smooth jazz so hastily in the last few days has been more clear channel-like than even clear channel could do. well done guys. i hope "BOOM!" totally BOMBS.

Remembering that not everybody owns an HD Radio..but you'd think they'd direct people to that, anyway. And, will they put the smooth jazz format on their website? My guess is if they will, it'll be once Boom launches...44 minutes from now.

wnwv.com will still house the former Wave website and existing now WNWV-HD2 stream (and Mark Ribbins, who now has been relegated to an internet and HD-only DJ). 1073boom.com (and 1073cleveland.com) are the new sites for 107.3 BOOM!

did the Wave get much of a swan-song by whatever dj? or did it go to straight ticking?

Not at all. The last live-assist DJ, Harvey Zae, signed off at 10:00PM. After the "Legends of Jazz" show with Ramsey Lewis ended at midnight, three songs were played... then just a fade to the tick-tock sound at 12:10AM. No sign-off notice, no goodbye, nothing.

john gorman is the consultant apparently
......while good for the station ..too bad for the rest of us who enjoyed reading his musings re: the state of cleveland radio today.
as he now has "skin" in the game.....his observations can no longer be considered as independent...
BUT....the station gets a great consultant..which is more important.....

If you missed the sign-on and first hour of the new HD1/analog format for the Boom 107.3, here is the first hour unscoped. It's about 32 MB, and a 64/22050 mp3 file. I recorded from about 11:58 am - so about 2 minutes of ticking - thru about 1:07 pm:

THANK YOU!!! :) :) :) I recorded it as well, but for the life of me, I can't upload my file at all online. :( This is greatly appreciated, Danny. ;)

Thats weird... Either thy have lipped back, or the net stream is their HD2 channel, now. One second Collective Soul, then suddenly (WAVE) sweeper and into Sade... WTF???

It's obvious with the webstream... the "masking" songs used to cover up some stopsets, but not all, haven't been changed yet.

By the way, this was a hastened switch. Yes, some of the TOH IDs (not all, tho) still say "This is 107.3 WNWV HD-2: Elyria-Cleveland." This is in part b/c the current imaging voice is not intended to be the permanent one. There should be brand-new imaging laid out with the actual debut of the station next Monday.

You're welcome! I'm wondering if Boom will get new call letters in the near future? Bet it will be something like W?BM if they do.

They went from one anti-PPM format into another. Yikes

It's anyone's call (sorry for the pun). It's quite possible that the WNWV calls might remain for some time to come.
